My DH hates his new boss.  I guess he is an arrogant a______.  He is always sending him lame e-mails and he sent him one today.  Well my DH decided to  forward it to me with the memo:

"What is F____ is this Bull_____??? Read Below."

I guess so I can see what type of e-mails he gets that send him in a tizzy.  Well, instead of forwarding it to me he sent it back to his boss!  He went into his office and told him that he sent him an e-mail that was not intended for him.

Is this a fireable offense?  I have no advice to give him so I'm turning to you girls for some rational thinking.

OMG, that sucks!  I know on AOL there's an option for deleting a message you just sent.  Anything like that at his work?  Is the boss' secretary a nice person who could maybe get into the email account?  I don't know what you can do, I guess the best thing would just be to apologize profusely and chalk it up to stress, lack of focus, frustration, etc, etc...

OMG!  Wow, for once I'm at a total loss for words.  I have no idea what I'd do in that situation.  I'm not sure if that's a fireable offense or not.  I hope it all pans out okay!

I told my husband your situation & he said even though it sucks, it could be the one chance he has to be honest & if the boss approaches him they could discuss the issues he has with him? Just a thought since it's obviously out there now....

This does suck though. I have a little knot in my stomach for your hubby!

n/s if it's fireable, but i would hope not. i agree with laken1 & her hubby. if i were in your hubby's shoes i would try and spin it by saying he hit reply on the wrong email and wasn't referring to the email the boss sent, but meant to forward an email from a family member to his wife. yeah i know lying isn't good, but i'm inclined to think that if your hubby says it's a family thing the boss won't pry.

for future reference in outlook you can recall emails, so if a person doesn't open it they can't read it. this doesn't work all the time, especially if the person you send the email to is the type to immediately read them as soon as they pop up.

good luck. i'm sending positive vibes in your direction.

ok, there's good news and bad news:

the bad news is that if he got fired, the firing wouldn't be discrimination of a protected class (race, sex, etc) or at least it doesn't sound like it from the facts you've given so you probably don't have a very good case in terms of wrongful termination.  chances are your hubby's mistake would probably be classified as insubordination, which is indeed a "fireable" offense.

onto the good news:

the good news is that i know (i should say know of since he's a friend of a friend) someone this happened to and while it was/is extremely embarassing, he didn't get fired for it.  in fact, it made him into something of a legend.  google "jonas blank" and you'll see what i mean.

ETA:  forgot to say i'm hoping and praying everything works out as well for your hubby as it did for jonas.

esquiress, sometimes i hate revealing too much about myself here but that guy works for my law firm and even though the whole thing blew over i don't think i will ever forget that story and it's the first thing that pops into my head when i see him or his name.

shpgqueenet, i feel so bad for your husband! it is probably too late for this but as honey pointed out some email programs allow you to delete an email from the receipient's email box. i would also probably try to concoct some kind of lie like honey suggested.

Well, nothing really.   My hubby went in, told him he sent him an e-mail not intended for him.  His boss did not write him up or talk to him about it or anything.  It's been business as usual and nothing has been said about it.

Oh yeah, Laken1- he had already scheduled a meeting to discuss issues with the work relationship prior to this e-mail being sent so the boss already knew that there were issues that needed working out. As a matter of fact when my hubby was in vacation during Dec.  another guy got into it with the boss and actually cursed him out and put him in his place.Nothing came of that either.

I'm still hoping that it doesn't come back to bite him in the arse, but if it does that just means that the hubby will have to move on and work for a different company and hope for the best (trying to be positive)

thanks girls.
