weight question

I was just wondering if these numbers even sound possible.

I'm almost 5' 3" and weight 143 lbs. I used to tip the scales at 160+ and wore a size 11 juniors. Now I routinely wear a 27 in jeans, making me a size 4/6 (2-4 at the mall, 4-8 at boutiques, mostly for my chest). As of mabye last month, body fat is 29%. I have large calves but how much can those things possibly weight on their own.

I know everyone is different and all but this doesn't seem right.

I guess it's just the way your weight's distributed or something (you have posted about your big boobs before ) Want to hear something totally weird? I was a size four at 5'4" and 120 pounds. Girl you're a freak

I think it just depends on your build.  I am 5'2, and at my heaviest I weighed about 150 pounds.  That seems like a lot for my height, but I could still wear a size 6/28.  Even though i looked ok, the number scared me and I managed to get down to about 125, which was the lowest I'd been since about 7th grade.  Because of my build, i think it would be impossible/almost unhealthy for me to weigh anything less than 120, while other girls my height are healthy at 105-110.

I also have large/muscular calves and thighs and I do think it contributes to my weight.  When I was heavier and down about my weight, a lot of my friends didn't understand, but they also thought that I weighed 15-20 pounds less than I actually did.  Weight also varies depending on bone structure too; someone with a larger frame is naturally going to weigh more than someone with a very small frame.

I'm a size 4 (thereabouts) at 5'2 and 115 lbs.  It really does depend on your frame and the way you distribute weight.  I don't think the actual number matters so much.

And, I've never understood those people you see on TV that are 5'8" and weigh 115.  How is that even humanly possible?  Or are they skinny little liars?

FWIW, I would never have looked at you and said "hmm, 140 or so" EVER.  But, as a fellow short person who's roughly your size (though I wasn't blessed with the chest), we just end up more 'compact'.  I mean, our bodies have to contain the same organs/bones/muscles etc that people who are 6 inches taller do, so there's only so much flucuation when you account for all that, ya know?

I think that almost every twentysomething actress' resume I've seen has read around.

Height: 5' 6" - 5' 9"

Weight: 110 - 115

Bust: 34-36

Waist: 24 - 25

Hips: 35 - 38

But they're almost that skinny. Camera adds 10 lbs. I've seen too many skinny girls IRL and they just look almost sickly at 5' 8" and 115.

Clearly I needed to get out of that old job before I ended up with a dysmorphic body image.

Its gotta be the boobs girl!  FWIW I'm the same exact size as you are 4/6 and a 34D and I weigh 134.  You might just have heavy bones like I do.  Darn bones can pack on the pounds too.

Lilykind, I'm so glad you posted this.  I'm in the same boat - 5'1", about 140 lbs.  I've always thought I was the only short person in the world who weighed this much.  All those charts that put the healthiest weight at something between 105-115 have always made me feel like a fat cow.  I have several guy friends who are between 5'7" and 6'1" who weigh the same as I do!!

That is really interesting.  I am 5'4" and weigh about 140.  No way in hell could I fit size 28.  I carry ALL my weight in my butt, I'm like a 2 on top and a 8 on bottom.  I've got to be really careful about picking clothes in order to balance things out.  It blows, but I guess we all have our issues.

You are just composed efficiently

Muscle takes up less space than fat (thus weighs more than fat) - so you have more lean mass than most people your size. That’s a good thing. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn.

In terms of fitness weight is pretty inaccurate to judge your health/fitness - measurements and body fat % are the best to use.

I'm pretty similar - at 5'4 140 I'm a 6/8.

I think they are often lying about their weight, or their bodies distribute it differently. I think Lindsay Lohan (at her thinnest) said she was around 110. She is the same height as me (5'7") and I am 115. I would need to be around 90 lbs to look like she did.

To answer your question, LK, I think weight is overall pretty useless. People just carry it differently. For a lot of people, being my height and 115 would be sickly. But honestly, I don't carry weight well. I would look slightly overweight at 130-135, b/c I gain it in one area. I hate posting my weight online because people say "That's unhealthy!" when for me, it's really not (in fact, I wouldn't mind losing 3-5 lbs).

I am about the same height/weight as luckylily. I feel better about 10 pounds less. That would be the absolute lowest weight I would go for. I remember once when I was a bit weight obsessed I tried really hard to get below 130, just to be in the 120's. Sick. I am much better now. I am a size 8 or 10 on the bottom, medium on the top. I have BROAD shoulders. I could never fit a size 6 or 27 jeans. I agree with everyone else. The numbers don't mean a thing. We are all built so differantly. You have muscles. I have nothing in the way of muscles. I am not fit at all. This is one of my resolutions for this year. So I suspect once I start building muscle I will weigh more but look better.

Me Too..I am 5'4" and weigh 155. I wear a size 6-8 now and people do not believe How heavy I am for my size. Even when I was a size 2 I weighed at least 130. We are just solid girls. Muscle weighs more than fat you know. I dont really care about my weight anymore, I only weigh myself 2 x / year. How I look and my clothes fit is more important. I know I need to lose some flab, but There are a lot of people I meet who weigh less than I do and look much bigger.

This is shocking to me. I'm 5'9" and like 155 and wear a size 8-10. It must be because I have no muscle. I also carry my weight well though. Although I think it also probably is that a lot of us dress better for it than most people do. I do not wear things that are unflattering while many women don't seem to notice what works for them and what doesn't.

It's definitely an individual thing.  I have the same body shape and sizes as you, but I am 5' and between 120-125.

I just did a body fat measurement, and I am at 18%, so I know I am not "fat."  And like Deuce said, muscle weighs more than fat.

Fortunately, we aren't all mannequins with the exact same proportions, so we all carry our weight differently.

that's very weird, lily.  i weigh the same as you, and i'm also 5'3.  my chest is a 36d and i wear between a 6 or 8 depending on the designer.  there is no way i can get into a 2 or 4.

This thread just fascinates me and goes to show that weight really is just a number. I'm 5'4" and when I weighed 125 I was a size 8, now I'm 112 and a size 2. 13lbs=3 sizes?

Yes, this was the other reason I asked the question. I just wasn't quite sure how all the guys I knew were the same weight as me.

I guess if we all REALLY wanted to lose weight that badly, we;d just charter a rocket to the moon and all of sudden end up being like 18 lbs.

girl, you must be solid muscle! I'm somewhere around 5'2"-5'3" and at 145 I wore a 12.

I'm 5'6"-5'7" and weigh about 145 or so (my heaviest) and I usually wear a size 6 at most mall stores.  My chest isn't big, so all of my weight is in my hips and thighs so as a result, I wear a larger size, even though we're about the same weight.

I really think it's all about what your body is composed of.  (I'm afraid to think of what mine's composed of since I sit at a desk 8 hours a day and rarely work out.

But I really just think that weight in and of itself isn't an indication of one's size or fitness.

I think it is a combination of body composition and body shape.  I am 5'4" 120 with a large chest and narrow hips.  I usually wear a 0 or 2 in pants.  I currently workout 5-6 times a week and do a lot of weight lifting so that makes me heavier (in terms of numbers).  When I don't workout I tend to lose weight in terms of numbers, but my body becomes more flabby.  Before I started working out and eating healthy I used to weigh 125 and wear a size 6 or 8.  I guess for me it all comes down to exercise and a clean diet.
