You know which food I mean - when you are trying to eat well but are really hungry, do you have something you reach for that you know will satisfy / fill you until you can fix something healthy are make a plan? For example, for me, I know that I can have grape / cherry tomatoes or pickles with little / no consequence.
I'm trying to find more ideas so I was wondering if any of you have similar foods?

weight watchers would always suggest almonds, b/c they are so low in fat, but a good source of protein and have some other health benefits -
i never really gave almonds a chance b/c they are prob my least favorite nut!
i finally went to the store and they have flavored ones!
so i got the maui onion and garlic flavor - i keep a bag of about twenty in my purse and it's a good thing to help tide me over when i get those fast food/ junk food cravings!
string cheese. Sometimes I just crave cheese and I know there are no carbs in cheese so string cheese is really easy to tote around.
Also, if you are trying not to drink pop, try Fresca. I love it and I HATE diet pop. It's not diet, it's sparkling soda with no carbs, fat, or calories. It's really good and comes in some yummy flavors. www.fresca.com
-croutons: i know it sounds silly, but they are low in calories and pretty good -popcorn: light microwave kind -apples -strawberries with coolwhip -yogurt -milk: not really a snack food, but it does fill me up
When I'm craving sweets I eat a bit of sugar-free Jello. Also keeping veggies cut up in the fridge is good b/c its so much easier to grab than actually making something to eat.
This may sound insane, but this past week I've been eating candycanes. Around 3:00 is when I get munchies, but don't like eating too much 'cause I don't want to spoil my appetite for dinner. So the other day I broke a candycane into 5-6 pieces and sucked on them piece by piece and before I knew it two hours had passed. I know they aren't healthy per se, but they keep your mouth occupied.
Totally dried fruit. Dried cranberries, apples, pineapples, bananas, mango, papaya... I crave sweet a lot, and the pineapple rings are so good (they're healthier than candy I assume). Also, celery with peanut butter, apples with honey, and grapefruit with sugar.
Oh, and I usually make a shake for breakfast. Food just doesn't sit right with me first thing, so I bought a smoothie maker and I love it. Normally I mix frozen berries, milk, almond extract, and ice cubes. Or my new favorite is my own Chai tea smoothie.
pirate's booty (it's probably not THAT good for you)
jarlsberg cheese
i don't really snack that often, and if i do it's usually not good food because i'm a student and don't usually have time to pack snacks - resulting in me buying chips or cookies from a vending machine.

I actually heard on the radio a while back that something about the pectin in apples helps curb one's appetite.

Fairywings--Your smoothie recipe sounds great! I love almond extract but never would think to put it in a smoothie. I have 2 questions for you though--what is a "smoothie maker" and is it easier to clean then a blender? I used to make protein shakes all the time in our blender but I got sick of cleaning it all the time (it wouldn't fit in our dishwasher). Also--what is your Chai smoothie recipe?? Thanks!
