Spring Wedding outfit advice....

Help!

My girlfriend is getting married this April in the Bahamas and having the wedding reception on April 22nd. She said that she would like to have hot pink and white be her colors.

What do you wear to a Spring wedding? Its not church or a ceremony, just a reception. Any ideas of style? Color? I want to start looking now for a dress and have no idea what to look for.

Thanks!!

So her reception is back home, not in the Bahamas, right?  Where exactly would 'home' be?

Also, do you know what time of day the reception is at?  What kind of facility?

The wedding will be in Michigan so that could be anything from cold, rainy or nice and sunny but probably nothing warmer than 40s-60s. Michigan weather is always iffy.

I haven't received the invitation yet so I'm not sure of the specifics. She emailed me this morning for my exact mailing address and the spelling of my boyfriend's last name.

Most of the weddings I've gone to have been in the late Summer/early Fall time. But I have no clue what to wear to a Spring wedding.

I think the time-of-day of the event and location dictates what you should wear more than the time of the year per se, with the exception of dressing for the weather.  Morning/early afternoon receptions tend to be less formal than later afternoon/evening receptions.  And cocktail receptions are less formal than dinner receptions, for example.

IMO I'd personally stay away from black, but other than that I think you'd be best off getting a knee-length dress with a cap sleeve maybe.  You could always add tights and a wrap if it's cool, or bare legs and sandals if it's warmer.

I think its going to be at a reception hall (could have changed since she told me months ago) but today she said that they weren't doing the traditional wedding cake, throwing of the bouqet, etc. so it sounds like more of an informal wedding.

I just wasn't sure what colors to start looking at. Its not quite winter but still not quite summer. I'm not going to wear black or chocolate brown but don't want to break out the really bright colors either.

I think a blue/green/lavender palette would work nicely, but depending on the dress you could probably get away with a brighter color.
