Running Shoe Rec's
Permalink Closed

I think the pair I own is at least 4 years old, they are tore up!  The thread has rubbed down and I think my toes have made an imprint in the shoe.  Anyway, a while back I posted about knee pain I get if I jog for over 10 minutes.  I'm thinking I was using the wrong shoe?

I'm going running shoe shopping this weekend, any rec's on any good ones?

I would go to a store that specializes in running shoes (in Boston Marathon Sports is a great resource) or go to a large sports store where you can talk to someone who will recommend a shoe once they've heard your needs.  The SA at Marathon Sports asked me about my distance/frequency and surface, he watched me walk in the store, measured my feet and told me to size up a 1/2 size to give my toes room to splay when I run.  I tried a couple of pairs of shoes running outside the store and decided on Adidas, they felt the most comfy.

Happy running!

I would recommend going to either Frontrunners (they've got a store in Brentwood) or the New Balance store (Santa Monica and Torrance) because they'll be able to pick out the exact shoe for you based on your specific needs (runner/how often/etc.). I got my shoes from the New Balance store in Santa Monica and I think they may have to be replaced soon because they're more running shoes and I need crosstrainers but they have held up really well. I paid $110 but it was worth it since for the first time in my life I'm not keeling over in pain from excercise.

The bargainqueen() option would be to go to TJ Maxx. One of my friends scored a pair of NB shoes as good as mine for $39.99. Big 5 also has good sales sometimes.
