I know you've already made your decision, but FWIW, I think you made the right choice. You don't belong in that apartment with those rude girls who talk about you. You've always given off the vibe (to me, at least) that you're an outgoing, independent, and kind girl who's pretty secure with who she is and where she's at. You need to get out of there! Even if the cool girl doesn't turn out to be so cool, the lease is up in May so you can just find something better. You seem to be a good judge of character (listen to me talking like I've known you forever...) so I'm sure this will work out if you want it to. As far as the boyfriend issues: I'm sorry you're in this situation. I don't think it matters if he lives 3 blocks away or 300... it sounds like you guys have a mutual understanding of what's going on, so it wouldn't really be that awkward if you saw him after you guys may have broken up. Plus, maybe it'll be good for your relationship.

I had a 9x9 room growing up. It wasn't so bad. I thought it was kind of cozy, actually. The room I have now is 15x22, and I actually kind of miss having small quarters. I'm in the middle of doing some homework and I had my architectural ruler out, so I made you a little sketch of how big a full bed is in the room (I did 9x9 because that's what I saw first in your post, but now I see that it might be 8x9)

I used the measurements that ILoveChoo gave you for the bed sizes. The dotted lines are supposed to be how big a queen bed is, and the solid is for full. Those little square-ish things are pillows (I did it really fast ). Just so you get an idea...

Hehe, what I'm most concerned about is you getting rid of that brass bed.  I'm sure we can make it work, it doesn't take up that much room.  If you give me the measurements of the room and the measurements of the things that need to go in the room, I can give you at least one (more if possible) of the ways that would be the best space layout (use to do this for a living at the furniture store).

Oh, and obviously, I think you should move

Move in with the cool girl.  The apartment sounds awesome--a terrace?  How cute.

It seems like you were never excited about the people you live with now, so I don't really think it is a brash decision to move out.  I think it might be perfect timing that you met this girl with an extra room at just the time you need a new situation.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Um...shoot...why must your roomies talking sh*t about you? They need a beating.

I think you should move. The worst case scenario is that the girls are mean and in may-ish you'll be looking for a new place. It seems like your situation now is worse because of your location...and IMO living in a city is all about proximity and location.

I lived in a 9x9 room growing up. I had a queen bed in there from when I was 6 until I was 14. It's not so bad. I actually LOVED it. You can just push the bed against a wall and set a bunch of pillows down during the day to make it function as seating. You can also use lots of underbed storage...it's defintely workable to fit your clothes. Also, you'll want to find a desk with vertical storage like a pretty tall hutch. IKEA has one that would work with the shabby-chic-marine ambience of your room.

Wow, a couple of the things outside your control may be a little whacked out temporarily, but you sure do have a handle on the things you can control... Good for you!

What would I do?
1) Move to the better apartment. Your sanity is clearly worth $50 a month.
2) Tell the boyfriend you want a break. Watching something slowly come to a head is torture if you're pretty sure you already know the end. Rip off the bandaid.
3) Use your month off for some serious analysis. What do you need in your life? How does your life need to work? You've already figured out you need to be financially secure, live in a fun area, and not be married. That's way ahead of most people. Flesh these out. Get specific. It's the only way to get the life you want.

Have fun! It sounds like you deserve a month of pampering...

thanks for all the advice girls- it really helps.  i'm going to try to see it again soon and take measurements.  i fear it may even be smaller than 9 by 9 or 8 by 9- the bed really takes up more of the room than in that cute little sketch and the closet juts out so that takes out some area- plus i dont have a full wall i can put stuff on really. i'll let you know what happens.

No worries, Lynnie .  I too grew up in a 8x8 room.  Had I had the resources, there would have been some really cool space saving organizational stuff I would have done.  Since I didn't, I improvised, but it is still totally doable!  And, if you like the people you live with, you'll be more comfortable spending time in the common space, so hopefully the smaller room won't feel so bad.

You definitely made the right decision.  The pluses def. outweigh the minuses, which will be well worth it.  I could tell you wanted to move as soon as I read your 1st post.  You will love it.  I also have lived in a few small rooms and it's actually quite cozy, even when your bed takes up most of the space.
