I've had mine for 5 years and use it most of the time. It's very convenient that I barely go to the gym anymore. It's nice to be able to work out at home when it's freezing out and you don't want to go out. It's also great to work on it while watching tv which makes the time go by faster.

I have one and I love it!  I use it all the time.  It is soooo nice to not have to go outside and run or go to the gym.  I'm not a gym person.  I've tried to be, but I just don't ever find the motivation to go.  And in Chicago, it's too cold all winter for me to get my butt outside to run, so having a treadmill at home is ideal for me.  Plus, like treschic said, it's nice to watch TV and run, or crank up the stereo!

my dad recently got into running (he just ran his first marathon in Nov.) and bought an expensive but good treadmill ($2000).  i told my mom that since he is getting older (and got the marathon out of his system..his version of a mid life crisis) that they should consider getting an elliptical.  that way my mom can use it too (she hates the treadmill) and it's lighter on the knees.  also, i like them (i use them at the gym) because you can watch tv/read a magazine if you're not feeling the work out, or you can go really hard on them.  i find that with a treadmill, it's hard to focus on anything but running, so the time goes by a bit slower.  yes, getting your heart rate up by running is good, but sometimes it's nice to spend longer while letting the time slip by watching tv.  i think they are such great machines, and a great investment especially if two people are going to use it.  plus, you can get the ones that tone your arms too.

just something to think about...

I had one. Of course I didn't use it as much as I had planned. I had a regular treadmill but I prefer using the "double wide" versions at the gym. But it was nice to be able to work out at home in whatever horrible outfit I wanted and watch any dvd, tv show, or listen to any obnoxious music I wanted.

For cardio, I prefer doing the elliptical though. I know running is the best for burning calories but I can go for much longer on the elliptical, it works your arms, and I just think it's more fun. Since you can adjust the incline and resistance level, you get just as a good of a workout. So last year, I gave my parents my treadmill and got an elliptical and have been very pleased. Just a thought, but you might want to look into an elliptical.

I'm also going to suggest an elliptical.  I love mine.  I love running outside but I can't stand running on a treadmill, I think it's pretty much the most boring thing ever.  The elliptical is actually fun and I never get bored with my workouts.  Last spring/summer I was using it for an hour and a half every day, just because I enjoyed it so much.

so i was going to post that i use it sometimes for this long, but i felt like you ladies would think i had a problem!  it's so easy to be on there for a longer time especially if you do it at a slower pace. i want one for my place sooo bad, but it would be a huge feature in the living room if we did.  i them.

my parents have one, and its really useful... once I have a house I intend to buy a treadmill or elliptical and mix that up with videos and free weights.

i think i'd love having an elliptical at home as well--does anyone have any experience with folding or smaller models that might work in an apartment? are there some that are well-made and not flimsy? i have some space that i could store it maybe in my kitchen, and then carry it out to the living room in front of the tv when i wanted to use it...
