How Can This Happen? (eBay ?)
Permalink Closed

So I am watching an auction on eBay, (the Biasia purse I just mentioned in the Secret Love post), and suddenly the auction is over! Early!

Here's what the auction page says:

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

How is that even possible? Once it's listed, don't they have to let the buyers bid out? Or, because there were no bids yet, can they yank the listing if someone offers them enough money off eBay?

I would love an explanation. I know some of you are experienced eBayers and can tell me why this happened...thanks!

A seller can pull the auction for an reason.

sometimes the seller will also have a B&M store and if the item sells in the B&M store, obviously they have to yank the auction.

Also, maybe someone contacted them on ebay and asked if they would consider a Buy-it-now option. I know I have pulled my own auctions for that reason.

Or maybe the person never had the bag in stock.. it was just ordered recently.. and then found out that the bag was sold out or backordered and they would be unable to get it and ship it to the buyer in a timely manner.

Thanks joceybaby...I never knew any of that. But it's good to know for future reference.
And you're right - I should hold out for the bag I am lusting after, and not try to comfort myself with a substitute. *sigh*

I think that as long as no one has bid on an item the seller can close the auction if they want (for any reason).  I know that once I found a top I really wanted on ebay and the seller hadn't listed a "Buy it Now" price.  No one had bid on the item so i e-mailed the seller and asked if they would sell me the top for $50.  They agreed and I bought the item before the end of the auction.  I think the seller might have relisted the item with a BIN of $50 and then I just bought the top as soon as it was relisted.  I can't remember all the details because it was a while ago but I hope that helps.
