I know a lot of us are on shopping bans as of this week. I am on one too, and I was wondering what everyone's motivations were behind their bans.

Mine is that I don't NEED anything more, I have plenty of stuff and not enough room to store it.

I'm saving for a monogram Alma and an Epi Speedy since I don't have any investment bags yet.  I've tried to save for bigger purchases before but I haven't had much luck because I always find something else that I "have" to have and I decide that saving for a bag can wait.  Now I'm 5 months pregnant and clothes just aren't fun for me so I'm less likely to be tempted.  Hopefully it will be easy for me to save this time.

I really don't NEED anything and I want to pay off a more significant chunk of debt this year.

Ditto.  I have just a few things that I need, thus the semi-ban/strict monthly allowance.

Mine is just like yours, zeitgeist4! I have TONS of clothes/shoes/jewelry, and I'm running out of places to store them, so UGH! I wanna pay off a few cc's, and take a REAL trip later on this year, so...... That's the reason for my 'ban'. LOL

combo of all of the above. the most important one being i'm going back to school in the fall and want to take the summer off. so i want to save at least enough money to cover my rent for those 3 months. also i have no idea where i'll be going, and i might have to move, so i need to save money for that too.

Most/all of the above. I spent too much before Christmas, I don't really need anything right now, I have a lot of clothes bought on sale that I don't wear, and we are buying a pricey sofa in a few months and I want to save on less necessary things to justify that major investment.

We have several trips planned, the first being in June and I'd rather have the $$$ for spending when I am away and perhaps finding things that are truly unique then just buying something I really don't need locally.

I have clothing to cover my work and going out needs.  Now I want to save up for things that I think are really good investments, but to really think about them.  I am not really sure what they are yet, but if I keep frittering it away with small stuff, I am wasting a lot of money.  I want to buy things that I really wear a lot, not just "things" if that makes any sense at all!

not on a full out ban but my reason is:

*space- i don't want to have so much stuff- i'm currently slowly but surely purging my closet so that only the things i always want to wear are left

*guilt- i feel guilty that i have so much clothes- but so few pieces that i *truly* love, plus now i'm working on acquiring a few high end/indie designer pieces a year

*money- not because i'm in a bad position financially (just yet, that is), but because i Don't have a ton of expenses, i know i should save as much money as i can (save in prosperous times- i know i'll need it eventually)

I'm also not on a full-out ban but my reasons are:

  1. Wedding in May, so I have to buy a bunch of wedding stuff.

  2. Moving to Florida next year, so definitely not much need for cold-weather stuff.

  3. Just started a new job, so my money situation is out of whack for a little while.

I need to pay off my CC debt...it's not really THAT much if I just buckle down and then later I can spend without feeling guilty. I would also like to pay of my student loans, which aren't much, but still...

I also have a lot of stuff and while I am a steady purger, I also am consolidating because I plan on moving in with my BF in the next year or so.

Although I have not OFFICIALLY joined the ban (will be as soon as I make a couple of planned purchases over the next couple of weeks) I will list the reasons why I must jump on the bandwagon.

1.I will have to move in the next couple of months and I need to save $$ for the move, also there is about $6,000 in bedroom furniture from Pottery Barn, and I'd like to swing some new living room furniture if possible.

2.I have tooo much junk.I need to do a serious purge- taking some items to goodwill and listing the others on ebay (only way to justify any miscellaneous small puchases while I'm on the ban).

3.Would like to take a nice vacation in the fall.

4.May be getting a new job in the spring- this may (not necessarily by choice ) require me to buy new things  anyway.

5.Need to make new oufits out if pieces I already have. Then evaluate what I'm actually lacking.

6.I own waaay too many beauty/bath products need to use what I already have, come up with new ideas for the hundreds of dollars in makeup I have sitting.

7.Overall I just want to beef up my savings and contribute more to my 401k.

I have so many reasons.

#1 - I don't need anything
#2 - we did spend more than we should have on the holidays between gifts & our trips
#3 - i refuse to buy anything else that will fit me at this weight. I don't want to be here & I don't want to buy fabulous clothes in this size
#4 - once i get to a comfortable weight, I'm changing to a quality vs quantity approach
#5 - I am putting hubby on an "allowance" & we WILL pay off our debt this year

I am going to join the shopping ban because:

1.  I have sooo much stuff that I don't need anything else until Spring.

2.  I want to save money!!

I am really not on a fashion ban, but not really feeling good about spending money after christmas, and I really spent alot on my fall|winter wardrobe already. Sure, I do have alot of things I still need, or could use- but just making due with what I already have. I do want to get a really great pair of black, heeled pointed toe boots- dressier- but, I think Ill wait until march when they are marked way down.  I have bought a few basics in the weeks after xmas and plan to buy a little here and there in the coming weeks, but looking for pieces that are quality and on sale.

Mainly it's because I acquired a ton of new clothes in Sept/October and don't want to spend a lot of money at the end of winter. I have a wish list for spring.  Hopefully I'll get some of the stuff on it.  But every time I mention clothes, hubby says that I bought clothes last spring, so I shouldn't need to buy any this spring.  Men just don't understand.
