Thanks everyone! We used a pattern by Simplicity, Sewing for Dummies. The directions were easy to follow. I think I will use a Sewing for Dummies pattern when I make my valances.
I was thinking about this idea. Making more would be much more quicker now that I know how to make them. It's time spent more wisely than sitting in front of the tv or computer. What price do you think would be right for something like this? Do you think $20 is too much (for Ebay)? The fabric we used was on sale for I think $3-$4 for the yard, some of the others we were looking at were $7 a yard. And the only other cost would be a little of the ribbon and of course thread. Oh, and I checked ebay, and there isn't nothing quite like this style. Mostly country bumpkin, animals, swimsuit body male or female, and plastic Hello Kitty. There was maybe two cool ones from the United Kingdom, so hardly next to none in competition.
Maybe do a couple of test-runs on ebay? I think $20 is fair - how much would it cost you to ship them? Another good idea would be to do some research both online and in B&M stores (which you've probably already done when you were searching for one yourself!) and see what the price points are there.
If your shipping costs would be less than $5, I make a few and put them up at $20 and see what happens. If they don't sell, you can always relist at a lower price. Or you could always make one and put it up for bidding w/out giving a BIN price and see how much it goes for. Or you could charge $15 for ones with simpler fabric/details and $20 for nicer/more expensive fabric and details.
I really think you'r onto something here though ...

Nice work! I think I'll make one next week if I can find the pattern you mentioned. And you should totally try selling them, they are so cute-I love the green trim on the pockets.

It was difficult to find green ribbon of that shade! It's really neat too since the reverse side is turquoise, so now I don't have just a bunch of green ribbon. I got the ribbon at Michaels crafts, they have a lot of nice ribbon. The pattern is Simplicity #9565, that will make it easy to find. If anybody wants to make one and has questions along the way, feel free too send me a message.
