Know anything about ADVERTISING? Tell me!
Permalink Closed

Hey Ladies!

Happy New Year!  So, I'm graduating from college in May with a degree in advertising and am so LOST on even where to start my job search. I live in Texas and would definitly consider moving to NY (Who wouldn't).  I wanted to see if you ladies had any recs on where/how to go about looking for jobs in the ad world.  Any info you have would be awesome, and I'd love advice too.

Thanks, Love yall!

Congrats!
Are you graphic design advertising? Sales advertising?

I do copywriting for an ad agency, but I graduated with a Marketing degree. I started with things like American Marketing Assoc.'s website. Your college career center can help you out a lot too.

I really like media and account service.  That is so cool that you do copywriting...how do you like it? Are you in NY?

I'm a marketing coordinator (actually, most of my co-worker's refer to me as The Marketing Department, since I'm it for marketing at the company).  But anyway, I do a bit of everything (heavy on the creative side, though)--graphic design, copywriting, proposals, budgeting, account management, etc.  It took me a few years to find a job in the field, even though I had done three internships.  I love what I do now, though.

As far as the best ways to look, I've found that going to directly to a company's website and applying through there works the best.  Try www.marketingtool.com to find local advertising and pr agencies.  You could also try the yellow pages and then just search for the company's websites.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

As I have had similar issues to NYLA, Its definately not an easy field to get into depending on what you are looking to get into.  Account management is a great job and you can really use your people skills.

I have to say I love what I do and wouldn't change it for the world.  Marketing is the best job ever!!! :)

Just like NYLA, I am available for any q's you have.  Its really important you don't get caught in one of those cheesy marketing companies, so if you are looking at Monster or Hotjobs and aren't sure whether to apply to a company, I can help you research it too.
