Interesting survey thingy
Permalink Closed

Someone posted this survey on another message board I frequent, and I thought it was soooo interesting I just had to share!  Fair warning, it's about religion, and I'm not posting it to be controversial in any way.  I don't even make a habit of labeling myself, especially when it comes to religion as I personally find organized religion somewhat offputting.  But as I no longer identify with the religion in which I was raised, I thought others might feel the same and might gain some insight on where their beliefs fall as far as religion is concerned, just for the sake of information .

Enlightening, though -

That is fascinating.  I like how it's very detailed.  I'm a Unitarian Universalist.

Thanks for posting, Elle! That was interesting.

I was a 100% match to Liberal Protestant. Which is funny, because I was raised 1/2 Catholic and 1/2 Liberal (and non-churchgoing) Protestant. I have yet to find a church that fits my beliefs exactly. My grandma says I am a "Cafeteria Catholic," LOL.

ETA: my 2nd and 3rd matches were both ~80% Quaker!

I was a 100% match on both the Liberal Protestant and Unitarian Universalist.  I thought this was really interesting because I consider myself to be agnostic, as I don't believe in a single diety or in creation and many aspects of organized religion really bother me.  However, I do think there may be some sort of spiritual force and I somewhat believe in fate and karma and in prayer and its benefits.  I also believe that what we will experience in afterlife is directly connected to the way we live.

Anyway, I could go on and on about this, but I thought it was really interesting to see that while I'm not religious or even really spiritual, certain aspects of my beliefs coincide with those of different religious groups

Halleybird, I came out pretty similar to you- 100 percent Liberal Protestant and 97 percent liberal quaker! I was kinda raised a mix of Catholic and Protestant as well- I was baptized Catholic, but then my parents converted to Protestantism when I was about 10 or 11, but I still went to Catholic high school... I've never been able to find a church that matches me quite right either- maybe there's something to the Quakers I've been missing!

Good quiz, Elle- thanks for posting!

tri-sarah-tops - the survey really doesn't make much of a distinction between agnostic and atheist, which is unfortunate.  Glad you still found food for thought in it, though .

It says I am mainline to liberal protestant (100%), which is probably how I would describe myself.  My next two were also Quaker (98% Orthodox Quaker) but when I read the description, I am very surprised my answers gave me that high of a match.

This was interesting.  I did find, though, that many of the questions did not have an answer that really represented what I believe.  I tend to know that there is a lot I don't know and I am okay with not knowing and that wasn't really an option on many questions.

Interesting! Thanks for posting, Elle. Like ejc, I found that some of the questions did not have a response that matched what I believe. I still came out as "mainline to conservative protestant" though, which is pretty accurate.

thanks for posting that, it's really interesting.  my results were 100% reform judaism, which is exactly how i would describe myself today (i was raised as a conservative jew but have moved towards reform judaism as i got older).  liberal quaker and unitarian universalist were my second and third choices.

Here are my results:

1.
Reform Judaism (100%)

2.
Liberal Quakers (91%)

3.
Unitarian Universalism (86%)

That was a great survey Elle!  Interesting that I came out as Reform Judaism because I was brought up and still am Christian.  But the description of the afterlife, views on abortion and homosexuality, and the reasons for wickedness and suffering described my beliefs to a t.  Who would have thought!

2.
Hinduism (99%)

3.
Unitarian Universalism (96%)

100% Theravada Buddhist. Which is really cool b/c I have been learning and reading up on Buddhism for awhile and one of my NY resolutions was to practice it more.

I was 100% Unitarian Universalist and 87% secular humanist - interesting because technically I'm Catholic...

My results were that I am an Orthodox Jew.  Odd.  I have no clue about Judaism.

100% secular humanism. but they didn't have really an option for my beliefs. if anything....there's a bunch of crazy immortal gods running around the earth. sorta like roman/greek/indian/etc religions or really, i guess, like your standard fantasy book. i was actually raised aethist but when to ccd-like stuff cause it was free babysitting for my parents.

I've taken this quiz before and came out, as I recall, Unitarian Universalist. It's been years and years ago though, so I'm going to take it again (I've gone through a lot of dramatic life shifts since then) and see if anything's changed.

ETA: apparently I'm still the old me, as far as beliefs go:

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Liberal Quakers (98%)
3. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (95%)

#3 is interesting to me, because I was raised Protestant (Episcopalian) but was never fully comfortable with all aspects of m y religious upbringing.

Thanks for posting it, Elle!
