Screen Ts - yay or nay?
Permalink Closed

How do you guys feel about screen ts?  Some days, I think they're cute, casual, kinda vintage-chic, and give off a nice low-maintenance vibe.  Other days I think they are too 'young', terribly sloppy, and they're what people who don't like/care about style and clothes wear because they don't know what else to wear!

So what do we think?  Cute and tastefull when worn in a casual setting?  Or tragic and sloppy?

Some examples

Pirates are Cool TeeBeatles 3/4 Sleeve Baseball Tee

Rock N Roll

I have the same love/hate relationship that you are describing.  I think if done right then they can be fun and stylish. I think it depends on if they are tasteful or tacky and how often you find yourself wearing them.  I rarely wear screen ts and when I do I try to make them look casual yet cute but the bf wears them all the time and it gets old after a while and can become sloppy looking (at least he's now trying to get away from them/wear them less).

Basically what I"m trying to say in way too many words is that it depends on the tshirt and how you are wearing it. I like the rock and roll one you posted the most and think it could be a fun shirt to have.

i like some of them. i like them when they're funny or clever. for example,i think i'm the only person out of high school who loves the abercrombie cowgirl tee. it cracks me up. the band tees i'm so-so about. i actually don't like when people wear band tees but aren't really into the band. the weird snobby part of me thinks if you wear like a beatles tee you should actually like the beatles and have more than a passing interest in them. but then again i'm the type of person who will chat up someone wearing a tee from a band i like, and it's kind of comical when the person knows nothing about the band.

i love how some band tees look too but wont wear them cause im not a fan of them! I'd be afraid to bump into you honey and feel like an idiot!

i like certain screen t's, i only have a few and i love to dress them up or down. just buy what you love and i dont think you'll have a problem

I have the same feeling about them as the others. It's a love-hate thing. I think that if someone wears a screen tee with jeans and a pair of sneakers everyday, it's not so cute. If someone wears a screen tee like this:

[image]  I think that's cute. I own a ridiculous amount of message/humor tees, and it would be so easy to just throw one on with my jeans and Uggs/flip flops and walk out the door (which I've often been doing )... but I feel like it's much cuter to just put a layered necklace and a blazer and switch out the shoes for a cute pair of pointy-toed flats.

Anyway, I think what I'm overanalyzing is the same point lsubatgirl was making: it depends on how you wear them, and also how often.

sorry..i actually can't stand screen t's with messages on them. i just don't think that they are very stylish, especially when you see everybody wearing the same old navy one. i also annoys me very much that what once was a cool goodwill find is now something that costs $30 and was made two months ago in china. do you remember the family guy episode where meg goes shopping at the "cool store" and buys a t shirt that says something like dum cumpster or something on it. that's why i hate those tees. i just don't think that they are very individualistic and most often are very childish, made for a much younger crowd.

but....if it's just a really cool pic than im all for them. i love the cool faded pics on the ones from delias, urban...just hate the words.

I actually like them, just not in excess.  I have a few, and it looks cute if you wear them the right way.  You can make them look cute/funky, but I wouldn't buy a ton of them.  Sometimes they are a nice way to dress down.

I actually have this one:

Beatles 3/4 Sleeve Baseball Tee

i love em... i have the beatles tee, and several others.. i do tend to be lazy and just wear them with jeans and puma's, etc.  but i think you can make them look great with cute heels and a blazer, shrug, etc. and esp. in the summer with cute sandals, etc.

however, im in college and even though i wear em, i do get sick of seeing the same UO tees everywhere i go.

I love them under certain circumstances.  If they are well-fitted, have the right print (cute vs. tacky - love the Beatles one you posted), and are "dressed up" with the right acessories, then I think they are every one of the good things you described.  But if they aren't worn right, they can look really sloppy.

i like screen tees to wear with a heavy sweater and jeans and tennies, but i think when you are looking for screen tees, you have to be careful not to get the ones with the stupid sayings on them that make them childish.  like the ones you allways see brittany spears wearing.  i allways go for the ones that look like vintage band tees.  but i have to admit, i do have a wonder bread tee shirt.  i know i know,  remeber the wonder

My sister wears them all the time and I think they're cute because she puts them with unexpected things. Lately her signature look has been a screen tee, menswear inspired pants, pumps, and feminine jewelry (like a long strand of pearls tied in a knot at the end or chandelier earrings). She seriously has about 10 pairs of F21 mensware inspired trousers in different prints and too many to count tees so she just mixes and matches. This is her typical outfit.

I like them, as long as they're not the ones with the sexual innuendo. Blech! Or if they say something like "princess" "super star" or even that "Rock n' Roll" one is too much for me.

PS. Sfclinevandy, that necklace is hot!!!

I agree with sfclinevandy; if you wear them with unexpected things it's super cute.  I love a screen tee with a blazer.

ok no TS pic from me today because what I'm wearing is a paul frank beaver tee, my AG jeans, and ratty converse sneakers.

I own a bunch of screen tees, but I never buy them unless they have real personal meaning to me. I used to wear screen tees, jeans, and sneakers or flip flops all the time because it was so easy but I'm really trying to move away from that now. When I was having my better days in college, I would wear outfits like the one sfclinevandy posted.

I am dissapointed with the UO Coca-Cola tees though...I used to only be able to get one that said Coca-Cola in Thai by hauling my butt to Thailand and buying it for maybe 2 bucks off the street. It seems wrong to now be able to go up six blocks and find a copycat at the neighborhood UO for $28.

I do own a couple with sexual innuendos from French Connection. I certainly don't wear them in situations like work or where there would be lots of kids around. I have the humor of a 12 year old boy and don't have a real problem with advertising that "sex is like snow" occasionally. That said, I will never wear those shirts that say "princess" or "rockstar" or any of that teeny-bopper stuff.

Okay I like screen tees but in my defense I go see a lot of bands and this is the perfect place to wear them and I haven't seen anyone in one that I own.

I have these

 but in pink.

I want these

Oh and there are so many more that I have and want.

I like some of them, but not all.  I love band tees.

I also love that pirate shirt, Elle... I think I found my sister's birthday present!

This one is cool too:

I  have waaaay too many graphic tees but I think I only have two with writing (including the "Pirates Arrrgh Cool" one as posted above).  I know they're not for everyone but they're so cute when worn in interesting ways.  I have several from threadless including:

Yeah, I'm kinda weird sometimes and I do have a pirate obsession.

CjStar, I love all the ones you posted!
