Do you ever find yourself putting on earrings, belts, necklaces etc... and on the way out the door end up taking them off  ? I do this constantly, I always feel self conscious- like it looks like Im trying too hard, or unsure if it really works with the outfit. I think in fashion, this is the hardest thing for me to coordinate- I am really going to try to work on this this year. To actually keep on the accesories- maybe I will get feedback from others that it works , or doesnt and I will feel more comfortable with my choices.

omg, i do this all the time too.  i agree- its easy to feel like you're putting on too much or trying too hard.  it reminds me of that quote- "Elegance is refusal".  I think its very chic to have just one standout piece of jewelry- like awesome huge earrings with a strapless dress and no necklace- etc.

in reality though, i think a lot of it has to do with me wanting to wear all my favorite accessories together, which rarely works.  For example, i have a cool orange pearl type choker with navy chiffon bow in the back, and sometimes i want to wear it with my new headband- that is black ribbon wrapped and has cutouts in it.  I know that a small, maybe 1/4" black headband would look best, but i am always tempted to wear both together because i love both pieces.

also, i think it depends on the look you're going for.  Jlear wears a ton of accessories together as does marykate olsen and it looks fabulous to me.  I have to be in the mood to do that though- and i'm much more better at doing it in a casual sense- i have a hard time wearing a lot of jewelry in a dressed up sense- either formally or even out to the bars.  I just feel like it looks too contrived, and probably because i overthink it.  during the day, its easy for me to layer necklaces and bracelets and forget about it, which gives me more confidence to wear it.

When I buy earrings they are always small, basic, and in no way "eye catching"- in doing this I know I will wear them without any thought of taking them off. But for christmas , my sister and mother bought me a few pairs of earrings that are entirely out of my comfort zone.  Large being the operative word here...A dangling chandelier type, large hoops with black beads and sequiny type beads, etc... Of courese I said I loved them, but I got them home and Im like how am I ever going to put an outfit together that will make these appropriate.? I dont know maybe my chance Ill come up with something- cant just let them sit in my jewelry box.

I always do that too! I'm never confident if my accessories go together, so I always end up with one noticeable piece, or a couple really simple pieces, or none at all. I love the look of several necklaces together, but I have no idea how to do it myself so I end up wearing one simple one or a long beaded one that I can alter the length of.

I wonder if maybe it's partly a state of mind too? One of my friends always wears her favorite pieces which never go together in my eyes, but on her they look fantastic. She always looks really put together but often her clothes don't match and her accessories have nothing to do with her outfit since she keeps them the same every day. I think maybe it just works because she has the personality and the confidence to pull it off.

Ohhhhhhh----I'm a jewelry accessories NUT, but sometimes I do feel like I have on too much, like one piece is overpowering another, so I try to keep them on the same SPARKLE level! LOL If it doesn't look right to me, or I end up fiddling w/it all day, I take it off or won't wear it again.

I do this too.  I've always heard that you shouldn't have on more than 3 pieces of jewelry at the same time or that once you're dressed to take off one piece of jewelry before leaving the house.  I know rules are meant to be broken and all, but I'm always doing this.

I think the main thing is that I don't like feeling or looking fussy, so I'd rather err on the side of being more conservative than over the top.
