my editor's smell!!!
Permalink Closed

okay, im having an issue. i bought a pair of black denim editor's about two weeks ago and the smell like burnt plastic. i didn't notice the smell when i bought them but i washed them when i got home and now they smell. they have been washed three times, in two different times, and dried three times, twice in a dryer and once just hanging. ive tried everything i can think of to get rid of this smell and nothing seems to work. im pretty sure that i can't take them back so what else can i do? do i just carry febreeze in my purse or just put them in the trash? they fit perfectly so i would really like to fix this smell problem. so...

is it worth it to try and take them back and exchange them? i do have the reciept but they've been washed and worn. do i really want to have to deal with returning something because they smell? i mean, really, id prolly just get laughed out of the store, right?

will febreeze really do that much good if they've been washed and that didn't work?

help me! my pants smell!! and it's a very gross smell! like burnt plastic or rubber!

at first I thought you worked at a magazine or something and posted in the wrong section

then I started getting visions of you getting laughed out of the store (you poor thing, I know exactly how you feel!)  have you thought about calling the store and telling them you think there may have been some reaction from the dye and they have a chemical odor and ask if you can return them?

I had a pair of calvin klein jeans that were just like that three years ago. Sadly never found any way to get rid fo the smell so I had to get rid of the jeans.

I would try Febreeze though...you've tried just about everything else. At this point it really can't hurt. Maybe stick a block of cedar wood on the closet near the pants to see if it absorbs the smell?

I worked at express part-time for nearly a year and I can almost guarantee that if you take the pants back (ask to speak to a manager though), they will exchange your pants for a brand new pair.  Be very nice, and you might be surprised what you can get away with!
I know when I worked the cash register, I did all kinds of similar transactions.  Once a dad came in the store saying he bought his daughter jeans that stretched out after she wore them (hello! denim does that) and we gave him a brand new pair, even though there was nothing wrong with the other one.  They had been worn and washed so we just damaged the returned pair, and it wasn't a big deal.  Of course people are different everywhere, but it seemed to me that managers I met around my area all wanted to keep customers happy.  It's worth a shot anyway.  Good luck!

we got some scarves that smell for christmas.  its probably a different smell- but my mom says they were probably stored in a moldy warehouse, and the smell will never go away.  so not to scare you, but i think your best bet is to try to exchange them, while you may not get your money back, you can probably get non stinky ones.

Being an ex-retail manager, not for express, but anyhow. I would totally give you a new pair, that is just weird and you might not be the only customer who had this problem, so they might already be aware. Ask to speak with a manager and then be nice and they should be nice back. I always tried to do what I could for nice people.

I also worked at Express and they're pretty flexible - no they won't laugh you out of the store.  If you're unhappy with the product, then by all means you should be able to exchange it!!

I had a dress once that smelled really weird, like gas or deisel or petrol or something. It was disgusting. I never found a way to get rid of it so I ended up giving it away.

Shame...it was a cute dress.
