How do I dress up this outfit:

Crisp white fitted long sleeve blouse

Floor Length Black Pants....gaucho style so very wide and flowy

Black Pumps

Would some kind of scarf at the waist look odd?  Anyone seen a pic of this?

I think a scarf used as a belt would look nice, so long as the blouse is tucked in and very fitted. My Gap has silk skinny scarves for 25 cents right now. The colors were pastels though so that might be a bit too springy for you.

this is on sale for only $7

I always really like a white blouse with a chunky or multi-strand necklace

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I thought I might try a red or green scarf to make the outfit a bit more festive.  I can't figure out how to tie it though so that it looks alright... :(

I think a red or green scarf would look really cute. I'm so bad at tying things though so I don't have any ideas. I mainly posted that Gap scarf because it's so long and thin that it seems like it would be really easy to use it as a belt.

Depending on how wide the scarf is, it might look cute as sort of a cumberbund (however you spell that word. . .).  I would tuck the shirt in, and put the bottom of the scarf right below your hip bone.  Then wrap it around the back and tie off-center in a floppy bow or a little knot, depending on how much scarf you have left.  You could also tie in the back, like a sash.
