The transit strike in ON. Well, you all probably know that by now. I got up the same time I usually do, showered and puttered around the house for a bit and left my home around 6:50 and got to work at 7:45. I live in Ft. Greene Brooklyn and work in lower Manhattan. The walk was brisk (aka cold, but invigorating). I got to work earlier than I do when I take the subway. I had my ipod, hiking boots and shearling so I was as comfortable as one could be considering the circumstances.

I even got to see the mayor and his posse (and lots of journalists) walking across the bridge and hogging the pathway. I kept saying "excuse me, excuse me" to try and get by, but no one heard me. I finally had to yell "I have to get to work" and a bunch of the big guys stepped aside.

Everytime I saw camera crews/photographers I put my hand in front of my face so they wouldn't film me or take my photo. Even though I am also a journalist, I really don't want to be in a photo that a publication will use 20 years from to illustrate the strike.

Does anyone else have transit strike stories?

Just curious,

why wouldn't you want your picture to be used?

I just got an apartment in Hoboken and it's so easy to get into the city.  I take the Ferry everyday to the wallstreet pier.  So the strike didn't affect me much.  The ferry was a little crowded but not too bad.  Also the PATH trains are still running so I was able to get all the way up to 34th street!  Some of the people I work with that live uptown had nightmare stories and most didn't show up.

I could see all the people walking accross the Brooklyn bridge this morning from the Ferry.

I wish I still lived in Brooklyn..... I would have never made it to work then! ;)

But I usually walk to work now (on a daily basis) so no real change for me here. I do notice that there are a lot less people on the NJT buses in the morning.

When do you think this strike will end? I want to meet friends!
