Where should I go in NY?!?
Permalink Closed

I'm going to be in NY from this wed - Mon.  My bf and I are staying at the Bryant hotel.  I think it's close to time square.  I'm actually from NY but I moved to LA when I was 12 so I don't know of too many places to go.  Shopping? Restaurants? Bars? Clubs?

Soho?? Never been.  Any must go great places there?

I'm going to visit Long Island too.  That's where I used to live (Roslyn Estates - close to the Americana Shopping Center).  Any great places to go there? Restaurants? Bars? Clubs?

I'm so excited to be visiting! Only been back once in 13 years (and I was still pretty young then).  Now I'm in my mid-twenties so I can go to fun places and see the city differently then I did when I was a child.

If you are in the know please help.  I really want to make this a great experience for my by and myself.

I know that you probably mean something different than this but...my vote is to walk across the Brooklyn bridge at night.  Super gorgeous and romantic.  I have done this both times I have gone to New York and loved it both times.

Thanks Tati.  A freind at work actually wrote me a list of places to go to.  So that should help.

Shpqqueenet, that's a great idea.  I'll be sure to do that if it's not crazy cold.

I'm so excited, leaving tonight!! : )

sophie - I'm not sure if you've heard but there is a transit strike in NYC so none of the buses and subways are running and cabs are operating on a different system - they can pick up multiple fares at once and each person has to pay a flat fee (it starts at $10 and then an additional $5 is added each time you cross into a different zone). So unfortunately that might limit your travels a bit unless the strike ends tonight.

For restaurants, bars and clubs as well as sightseeing it's kind of hard to make general suggestions since there are so many different options. Since you are staying in midtown you should walk up 5th avenue and through Rockefeller Center to see the window displays and the tree. And of course there is lots of shopping in that area. I work in Times Square and there are honestly no restaurants that I can think of which are really good and either not super expensive or not chains. It's kind of a wasteland. There are 2 cool bars in the W Hotel which is on Broadway, I think around 45th St.

HTH and I hope the strike doesn't affect you too much!

cc, I'll be visiting the W bar's for sure.

The strike is such a sore subject for me. Ugh, I'm praying it ends for everyones sake and my own.  It's going to be a real bummer if it continues through the duration of my trip and christmas.  Anyway I'll let you know how it goes!!
