I seriously can't wait.

I'll spend Christmas in the States, but on the 29th I am going to Italy, so I'll get to see my parents, sisters, relatives and friends! I really cannot wait, I just try not to think about it because if I do I get all excited and don't get anything done!

I seriously cannot wait.  I can barely concentrate at work because I'm SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!  I get to go home to California and have Christmas with my family.  It'll be my first Christmas back home since I graduated college and since I got married.  PLUS!!! my three year old genius of a nephew and my two year old cousin and my new baby cousin will be there and it'll be so much fun to see all the young'uns on Christmas.

We're only going to be there three days, but it means family, Mexican food (), and pedicures with my BFF.  I'm so excited I'm almost in tears.

Unfortunately, not. This is the first time we will have Christmas by ourselves - no family - which we've talked about wanting to do since we met (7 years ago). We moved four years ago and have traveled across the country every year to see family, and while I love them, my parents are the only ones who are truly easy to deal with, so the visits with my bro and SIL, or DH's sis and our BIL are always a strain.

But this year DH and I are having some issues...so now we have time for "us" but honestly, I'm not sure either of us is really looking forward to that, as sad as that is. I am happy that I've found some really cool gifts for him this year; he works hard all year long and his birthday is the 28th, which always seems to get overlooked by everyone else, so I try to make this time of year very special for him. I have almost everything bought and now am trying to figure out a great place to take him for his b-day. Hopefully we'll get through the holidays without any major issues or more sadness.

Sorry to be a downer - I'm just not enjoying the holiday season much this year. I hope you all have a wonderful time though, and glad you girls are so excited about the upcoming holiday!

Oh, atlgirl, I'm so sorry - big hugs! That sort of pain can cast a cloud over everything. I really hope it works out.

I'm sad too, because this is the first Christmas since I was divorced. But I do love this time of year, and sort of get into it vicariously even though I wont' be spending it with family or anyone special. I mean, gotta love the cheesy tv specials, if nothing else. The Christmas lights are great - I live in a picture perfect small town, so that's fun. And i's just a hopeful, happy time of year so anytime I leave the house I feel better just being out there in the world.

Thanks, kaykay and Dizzy. He and I spent part of today together and had a really nice time. I love him very much - and I know he loves me - we just are having communication difficulties and have built up some resentments on certain issues, and it makes us tense and snappy with one another. But we are in counseling and that's been helpful. I just don't want either of us to be unhappily married, y'know?

Dizzy, I'm sorry - this must be a hard holiday season for you as well. I hope you have some good friends there whose company you can enjoy. One of my friends had her first "divorced Christmas" last year and she held up through it, but we all supported her when she was down or lonely. She's doing much better this year. I am glad you're able to enjoy the holiday-ness of the season. *s*

kaykay - I love the idea of starting our own holiday traditions. My DH loves backgammon like crazy, and he just started teaching me how to play, so maybe we'll have a backgammon tourney every holiday...sounds dorky, I know, but we're both competitive and enjoy this sort of stuff. Thanks for the suggestion!
