Challenge: Can YOU work a boxy tee?
Permalink Closed

I've been assigned to work a company booth at a major convention/tradeshow.  (Fun!)  But my boss expects us all to wear boxy t-shirts bearing the company logo across the front.  (Yikes!)  I have to wear it several days straight.  I'm requesting the smallest size possible, but I have a feeling it's still going to be boxy and jammie-like on me.  Is there any (ANY!) hope to look cute in something like that?  I don't need to be "dressed up"...casual is fine.  But I still want to look and feel like a girl, know what I mean?  What would you do?

Maybe putting a fitted long sleeve flannel under it would "cuten" it up a little.

ETA:  Not a flannel, I meant thermal...I don't want to manly up the outfit anymore with a flannel shirt lol.

Boy, I have been there. I had to work a L mens (I would normally be a S) long-sleeve polo shirt once. However, since I assume you are in some type of business, its really good to look uniform. It helps with the perception of a team oriented place of business.

The key is to look professional in that boxy t-shirt.
Crisp, tailored pants and nice pumps. If it's cold, wear a long sleeve polo or a blouse that compliments the colors on the t-shirt. You don't want to necessarily work the shirt so that you stand out, you want to make it look really really professional.

Sorry, I know it sucks! I have so been there.

Yes, thank you!    That's what I was thinking when I said I didn't need to look "dressed up."  Definitely don't want to look like I'm trying too hard or stand out for that very reason.  But I still want to look good so I can feel comfortable/confident.  Will crisp dress pants look good with a boxy t-shirt, I wonder??  I wouldn't put the two together under normal circumstances.

I will be allowed to wear jeans.  Maybe I'll try a trouser jean so I can wear nice pumps or a pointed toe with it...  I'll play around with the long-sleeve underneath idea as well.  Thanks ladies!

Which tradeshow will you be working at? Just curious because I'm going to be a staffer at the HIMSS show in February

It's arts-related.  I'd prefer not to say exactly which one, hee hee!

How about adding a low-slung belt over it?

I have to wear the boxy tee look every couple of Fridays for "school spirit." I just try to wear cute jeans and sneakers to make up for it.

I think it's all about the accessories.  I had to wear tons of tee shirts in college because of my sorority.  The first key is to get one that fits decently.  A Youth Large tee generally works best, because it fits a bit more narrow and it doesn't hang on you like a trash bag.

Then I'd wear nice looking jeans and cool shoes, and either interesting earrings or a cool bracelet.  If it's cold, a long sleeve tee underneath would be cute, and you could even get a tee with a cute print (I'm thinking the Delia's printed thermals would be really cute).  HTH!

I think a big-ish tee looks cute with a sweater like this and a cute skirt (I did it with a denim mini but if you wanted to look more professional you could do a pencil skirt).  The baggy tee looks styled when you pair it with a sweater that is purposely slouchy.

Xhilaration® Kabuki Sweater - GrayMine is like this one from Target but it ties in the front.

Thanks ladies!  You've been so helpful.  And I feel hopeful about this now...  ;)
