Outfit for Movie Premiere Help!
Permalink Closed

Ok, so I am going with my b/f to a movie premiere tonight.  The premiere isn't fancy and we definitely aren't going to be the center of attention......so I had planned to wear a cute outfit.  However, when I showed my b/f what I was wearing this morning he said that he thought it was too casual.  I wasn't planning on making this a big deal, but now the b/f has me worrying....what do you think?  Too casual?  I was planning on wearing:

·      Brown velvet blazer

·      Pink/Green cami

·      Long dangly necklace

·      My sevens rolled up to show off these shoes (but in pink):

I think it's kinda casual, but IME it depends on the movie you're going to see. I've been to premieres, but they've all been for cartoons or family films. I just went to one and because it was a family comedy, everyone was wearing super casual stuff. The director, producers, and all the adults dressed very normally Hollywood Hipster (vintage tee and/or plaid shirts, desinger jeans, retro sneakers). I would dress up more if it wasn't a comedy or animated feature.

its perfect and sounds really cute! no need to get more dressed up than that unless you're walking the red carpet, honestly.

while i love your outfit, i can't get movie premiere = hollywood = celebrities = super dressy out of my mind.

mabe switch the jeans to a skirt?  that would still be a hot outfit and not super dressy or casual.

i'm nosey, will there be famous people running around?

2nd.  Even all the independent film premieres I went too, the actresses are normally dressed in some vintage dress they picked up at Melrose flea market, designer bag & heels normally, some cool jewelry.

If you are wanting to just blend into the background and relax, you will be fine.  If you are trying to schmooze your way into a cool afterparty, you might want to crank it up a notch.

It is a comedy.  I wasn't going to post what specific movie it was because I am weird about people I know reading my posts (which doesn't make much sense b/c my username is my actual name).  Anyway.....my b/f's brother is in a supporting role in the movie "The Ringer" with Johnny Knoxville.  So it is a comedy.  BUT, now I am thinking that I should look dressy for the premiere since I am going with an actor in the movie (riding in the limo with him, etc).....crap!  I am at work and we are leaving straight for the premiere.....guess I am going to do some shopping at lunch!

Your outfit will work. It's very cute and it's the kind of stuff that most people would wear to premieres. Unless you're the star, you shouldn't stress out too much.

If this helps, The premiere I went to (a true premiere since they were showing the finished movie for the first time) was for Cheaper By The Dozen 2 and Piper Perabo had one a smashingly gorgeous outfit. She wore a plain black sweater, black cropped pants, and hot trouquise print Pucci-esque (they may have been Pucci) pumps. She was totally overdressed for Cheaper (same type of family/comedy movie). I wore a denim mini with tights and brown knee high boots and felt completely overdressed as well.

Do you know what other people in your group are wearing? I think your outfit sounds perfectly acceptable. There are always pictures of stars showing up to premieres in jeans and other casual outfits. If you can find something else at lunch that you would be more comfortable in that's great but otherwise don't freak out!

Here are some shots of casually dressed celebs at premieres. Your outfit sounds nicer than some of these look!

CC - thanks so much for the pictures!  I forwarded some of the links to my b/f to prove that casual is ok.

If anyone was wondering....I found a cute cropped plaid blazer at Club Monaco during lunch.  I am going to wear that along with skirt I wore to work to the premiere.  That way I can pass as the "I just stepped out of work to attend this event" look even though it was really "I was stressing and did last minute shopping during lunch" look - thanks so much girls!!!
