real 100% pashmina?
Permalink Closed

i was gonna buy a fake-o off the streets but didn't get a chance.  my bf's mom went to turkey and bought me one and now i'm obsessed.  its SO nice.  I hear they're like $5 in turkey.  Why are they SO pricey in the states?  wouldn't everyone go turkey- buy 20 of them- and then sell them?  has anyone bought a bunch in turkey?  I want to go there and buy some.  haha.  anywhere stateside that has real ones for a reasonable price?

I've seen lots of them on ebay, you just have to research the sellers. Some actually do get them from turkey. Good luck!

I was just in Turkey before Thanksgiving and they were 3 for $10 due to the exchange rate.  They were everywhere in gorgeous prints and colors... It's not just Turkey, you can really buy them in most major European cities for next to nothing, I got four while in Sweden recently.

Ooh....I'd love one (or two) as well. I have a black one, but would like some other colors. I'd be happy to Paypal or send a check...

Is there any way to know if something is 100% pashmina?  The reason I ask is because one of my friends is from India - when she went home last Christmas, she brought me back a silk/pashmina blend wrap that cost $25.  Gorgeous!  Anyway, she said to get a 100% pashmina scarf would cost between $75-100 there.  Not outrageously expensive, but not dirt cheap either.  Her mom owns a jewelry and accessories store, so she has the inside track on these things.

That's interesting, JJ...my pashmina was a gift from my mom, and I know she bought it at Nordie's. They had pashminas for $99 when she got it..not sure if that was a sale or regular price.

Mine is a 70/30 blend - pashmina/silk. The tag states "made in India". I wonder if the ones from Turkey are really pashmina wool?

Mine is 70/30 too.  I'll ask my friend if she has a 100% pashmina scarf, because I'm guessing she does, and see if I can feel the difference.

I bought a nice lightweight black 100% pashmina shawl from overstock.com. Periodically their Worldstock section has it. I bought the shawl less than two years ago for $99.

Here it is.
And in cream.

I have silk/pashmina blend ones and a real pashmina that I purchased at Nordies.  If the ones I got in Turkey are fake, I seriously cannot tell the difference.

We have a potential client in Turkey, so if we get the contract I will be headed back in the next few months.  I'll make sure to let you ladies know...
