my best friend is being induced on friday, two weeks before her due date, because the baby isn't growing enough.  i'm going to be the one in there with her, so wish us luck!  (her for an easy delivery and healthy baby, me for not fainting!)

i cannot wait to meet this little guy!

thanks ladies!

i'm really excited but also nervous - i've never been in a delivery room while someone was actually delivering before!  but i can't wait.  i love this girl so much, we've been friends since third grade (so about 18 years), and she is my favorite person ever.  though i have a feeling after the baby, she may be downgraded (she's cute, but babies are cuter! lol).

has anyone been in the room without being the one in labor?  any tips?  should i bring anything?  i'm planning to bring a pillow, in case we're there for a while (and even if not, i might want to stay over with her/them), and a book, so if she gets an epidural and falls asleep i won't be bored.

i can't wait!!!

i was in the delivery room in nursing school.  it was my first "birth" and it was amazing.  the birth that i was assisting in, had the father and the girl's mother.  the father was really no help, i think he was nervous, and wishing that he could take the pain away from the wife.  the mom was great though.  she was talking to her daughter about the past.  i remember her talking about how she used to play soccer, etc..  it really helped because the daughter started to concentrate a bit on the conversation, and seemed to disengage a bit from the fact that she was giving labor.  my role was to basically watch the monitor and notice when she was having contractions, and telling her to push.  i kinda freaked out because the doctor took forever to get in the room, like she literally came in about five minutes before the birth, and since i was the only healthcare provider in there, i was worried that the baby would just come out.

the doctor came in, and she had the baby and it was soo beautiful.  i was sobbing like a baby.  they didn't know the sex, so i got to tell them.  it was really exciting.

i think the best thing is to just talk to her and talk about the past, maybe a vacation that you went on, etc...  i feel like it helped the mom a bit, just talking about the past.

hope this isn't too late.
