I didn't know where to post this so I'm putting it here...


So I also go to the gyno in June for my regular exam and pap. Well after the most recent one, the lab lost a big bunch of samples and a lot of patients (myself included) have to go get another pap. Not that big of a deal but my regular gyno is in Atlanta (for all my health care needs down in Flordia where I live for school, my uncle is an in internal medicine md and hooks me up). So I'm told about the lab screw up and told at my convienence to come in and get a pap. Well I made the mistake of telling my mom and she has been nagging me NON-STOP. She called several times during exams and called just a minute ago to tell me I "really need to get in to get another Pap" and how important it is and all this other stuff. It would make more sense if there was a history of cervical cancer in my family (there's not), I was doing any at risk activites (unfortunately, no) or I had any health problems in the past (nope, I'm healthy as a horse).


So while she is literally freaking out about my reproductive health, my youngest sister is 19 (20 in February) has never been to the gyno. And I *know* she's sexually active. I got dragged to the gyno at 14!!! No I wasn't having sex, it was to control my crazy hormonal migraines. My little sister is so smart and responsible, so I'm not worried about that but I still think my mom should maybe consider making her an appointment to get checked out rather than nagging me and I've been going annually for the past 11 years! And my youngest sister also gets bad hormonal migraines and birth control has helped me control them so much that I'm sure it would help her, in addition to the whole not getting pregnant perk. I've talked to my mom about this and all she'll say is "yeah, she needs to go" and that's about it.


My middle sister didn't have to go until she was about 20 either.


Despite this post, we're not anti-sexual education or super religious. Almost everyone in my  family is a doctor so you would think this wouldn't be an issue. Maybe my mom's just thinks I'm the slutty one and is most worried about me.


Sorry, I just wanted to vent. I'm 25 years old any my mom still can't keep her nose out of my un-eventful business. I just made my appointment to get another pap before my mom could make one for me.

Whoa, that is some serious overstepping of boundaries.  When/if she says ANYTHING about it again to you, I'd say something along these lines:


"Mom, I know you care about me and my health, but I am an adult.  I know that the appointment is important, and it is my responsibility to take care of it for myself.  Please don't mention it again."


Seriously, nagging her 25 year old daughter about a gyno appointment?  Really?

maybe your mom feels like she's closer to you so therefore feels like she has license to nag more.  i'm just guessing but i remember you posting once that your mom was your style twin, you guys had similar taste, etc. so maybe all that contributes to her feeling like she can get in your business more than your sisters.  or maybe she just loves you more and doesn't give a flip about your sisters' reproductive health .  TOTALLY kidding. 


anyway, next time just don't tell her stuff.  ime, it's the only way to keep them from worrying.

Mom's are so weird on what they choose to nag each child with, my parents nag my sister and I all the time but never about the same thing. Maybe your mom just thinks your are the prettiest and would have the hardest time sending all those gentlemen callers away...
