I'm hosting a Christmas Party/ Housewarming this Saturday and was wondering if you had any fab ideas for appetizers/finger foods? I love to cook, but can't decide what I want to make yet!
So far I'm thinking maybe a baked brie, stuffed mushrooms, mini spanikopita in phyllo... what else?
I'm a terror in the kitchen (in a bad way) and pretty much an idiot when it comes to cooking, so you'll have to forgive me if this stuff is remedial or just plain wrong.
I made (okay, with the help of others) a great appetizer for an Italian party over the summer that I still think about with longing. Sad, I know! We sliced a cantaloupe and wrapped a piece of proscieutto (sp?) around it. Oh. My. God. So good!
I like to make veggie plates but with veggies other than carrots and celery. (I like to make a rainbow of raw bell peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers personally.) And it's easy and done a lot but I still love the packet of ranch seasoning in a container of sour cream (light) for the dip. I want some now, as a matter of fact.
My mom once made stuffed cherry tomatoes (stuffed with spinach dip) for an appetizer and they were very yummy. I'm not sure how she made them or how much trouble they were but they were very popular.
Here are hors d'oeuvres that have been popular at my parties: -bacon-wrapped dates -mini twice baked potatoes (halved, roasted red potatoes topped with mashed potatoes) -frittata (either done in a frying pan and cut into wedges or baked in mini muffin tins) -mozzarella, tomato and basil skewers -mushroom turnovers - my family usually makes them with a cream cheese dough. This recipe is probably similar to what we use. I've also made them with puff pastry to save time. -flat bread pizzas -bruschetta - I think a red onion bruschetta is nice for the winter.
I was going to recommend baked brie, sausage balls, pigs in a blanket---not very chic but they are always the first to go, spinach dip, stuffed mushrooms
