What Book are You Reading?

Well Im on my Winter Break from school, and looking for some good reads, but aren't too lengthy as I only have 3 weeks and would like to read a couple of books


So what book are you reading right now, or would highly recommend?


 


If you haven't read James Patterson, His Womens Murder Club Series is Awesome, and such quick reads, I don't even like murder mystery books, but these had me hooked!

Self and Soveriegnity: Individual and Community in South Asian Islam Since 1850 by Ayesha Jalal. Jealous?

In about two days I plan to read Shopgirl by Steve Martin.

One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It's been on my nightstand for weeks and weeks...usually I can get through books faster than this, but I've been busy and it's pretty lengthy - though very entertaining.

Haha Maddie, I thought you were really recommending the first one!


I'm listening to Wicked on CD.  I finished a little over half on my trip home for Thanksgiving and am actually looking forward to the drive home for Christmas so I can finish it!

That books is amazing.  Marquez is my favorite writer.  One Hundred Years of Solitude was tough for me--there are a billion characters--but it's really good.  My all-time favorite book of his is Love in the Time of Cholera--check it out if you get a chance.

piers anthony "xanth: a quest for magic". this is actually the first three books of his long running xanth series. excellent for anybody who likes fantasy/science fiction. since im all done with school in three days, im gonna be reading a lot. tv bad, books good.

I'm reading the Chronicles of Narnia - I bought the book that has all 7 of the stories in it. They are all pretty short (100ish pages) & really good, so that may be a good thing. And they are really "young adult" books so it makes them a simple read - I'm really enjoying them.

Have you read the Shopaholic series? Or The Devil Wears Prada - they are all really fun.

I'm really loving Jonathan Kellerman right now - he was a child pschologist irl & so is his ongoing character in his books. but they are "murder mystery" type books

Haha despite the fact that I actually enjoyed that one, I wouldn't recommend it. I've now moved on to Latin America: Its Problems and Its Promise by Jan Knippers Black. Slightly less riveting.

Book CoverBook Cover This two-part series from Emily Giffin was a true surprise in how much I really enjoyed them!  The first book I read in two days over the weekend - told from 1 friend's p.o.v, then the second book is told from her BFF's p.o.v.!

Totally not the same kind of book as the rest of you...I am reading Al Franken's, "Truth with Jokes."  So far, it's pretty good!  If you enjoy satire from the liberal left, like me, it's a good read.

These were my last two book club reads:


The Historian, this book was awesome.  Very gothic and dark.  Its about a group of historians (in different times) searching for Dracula.


The Kite Runner is a wonderful story about a man who emigrates from Afghanistan and what he goes back to solve.


Memoirs of a Geisha is also a great novel.

I love love love love love GGM! Love In the Time of Cholera is on my top 10 favorites ever!


Right now I am finishing Son of a Witch. It is good, though not as good as Wicked. Next I am either reading The Kite Runner or Pillars of the Earth, both of which have been on my bookshelf for ages.

Dumb question -- was this book scary? I cannot do scary books at all, and I have a particular childhood fear of Dracula, but the premise sounds cool.

I am reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susannah Clarke. I am not far in to it but I think I will enjoy it.

Lately I read:

The Kite Runner- read it. Amazing.

The Romantic by Barbara Gowdy.- Also amazing.Heartbreaking.

I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb- this one has been around for awhile. Great story.

I have One Hundred Years of Solitude in a pile of books next to my bed. Maybe I will read that next. I also have Captain Corellis' Mandolin. Has anyone read it?? Can't remember the writer.


The Historian looks very interesting!! I enjoy gothic and dark!

I just finished a great book; Necklace of Kisses by Francesca Lia Block. It's the last one in the Weetzie Bat books...and brand new. So good if you're a fan of this series.

Ooh, I lurve Pillars of the Earth!! I've read it like 20 times, the binding fell apart on it! Very good imo!
