help me pick a chandelier!

this is for our entryway. the entryway has about 9 ft ceilings and black and white checkerboard floor. our house was built in 1920, and has beautiful painted white woodwork along the side of the stairs. i really like these two:

25x24, 197$

31x30, 333$

i'm only concerned the second one might be too big. (our current chandelier is much smaller, but i do want something bigger than the one we have now)

other suggestions? i'd like to keep it under 400.

erin, they're both beautiful and both very different.  Maybe could you post a picture of your entry so we could get a better idea of what would be best there?

I love the first one because it's so pretty and delicate.  But I love the second one because it seems old and grand.

I voted #1 because I love sparkly chandeliers and because it has a nice modernized-1920s look to it.  If you have an Expo near you, it's worth checking into.  They have a huge selection of chandeliers, though a lot of them are very pricey.

Can you post a picture of your entryway?  I think the first one would be really nice and not compete with the checked floor. I could be that the second one might compliment the floor.

Post a picture so that we can see.

i really like them both but in different ways--

i guess number 1 if i have to choose.

it doesn't seem like you could go wrong with either.

I really like the first one.  It seems a bit more delicate and I'll bet the little crystal thingies catch the light and looks really pretty IRL.

I agree... it has more of an Art Deco-type vibe.  Very pretty!

i think number one would look great with a checkerboard floor- the floor is pretty bold and i think the delicate-ness would look nice as a contrast.  the second one is kind of heavy for that floor i think.  if your ceilings were higher maybe it would work better.

ok here is the entryway!

the grout still needs done on the tile, but all in all it's almost finished. we've been staying at my in-laws while our kitchen is getting redone (we had the tile go through the kitchen to entry), so i wasn't able to get a picture earlier.

I had originally voted for #1 but now that I see the entry, I'm seeing #2 fit a lot more nicely.

I really love the first one, but I think #2 would look better in your entry way.

ok first, that entryway is beautiful!!!

and although i think number 2 would be the traditional choice, i think number 1 would be the unexpected and incredibly chic choice!  i STILL love that one for your entryway - even more now that i've seen it!

i like to mix my styles a bit though - so that could just ve my personal taste, but i LOVE the way the vine-y lines of the chandelier would contrast with the squares on the tile

Beautiful entry!  I voted for #2, but I think both would look nice.  Just depends on the overall look you are wanting to achieve.  Post pics when you're done.

I voted for #2, now that I see the entry way, #2 is definintly the best IMO.  Look what I did in 5 minutes!: (not sure if it's the exact scale or not.)

Now I think #1 even more!  #2 would just be too heavy-looking w/ the floor.  Plus, everyone likes a little sparkle!

I think both would look great.. But I would go with number 2 just because I think it fits in better with the style of the entryway.  I must admit, 1 is a beautiful chandalier

I think they would both work, but I like the first one better. The second one reminds me more of a Craftsman-era house, while the first seems more eclectic and vintagey.
