Thanks ladies for all the input!  I was personally leaning towards the Speedy also.  Now, i have a new question.  While I LOVE the speedy...everytime I walk around Chinatown, I cringe at all the obvious fakes I see.  So, I stumbled upon this picture on MUA:

and my jaw dropped.  It's perfect.  The shape of the Speedy I love but in the Damier Canvas which I prefer to the Monogram anyways.  So I called LV and they said they don't really sell that, but they can custom make it...but it'll cost more (for a Speedy 30 probably about $760-800) and it'll take 4-6 months to make because it will actually be custom made for me in France.  So....should I custom order it?  Is it worth the extra $$$?  If I order it now, it should be ready right around my birthday.  And i have to admit...having a 'custom' made LV makes me giggle.   But the speedy mono is instant gratification.

How much more are we talking for the custom made one as opposed to a regular Speedy?  Sorry, not up on the prices .....

I like the damier canvas for structured bags...the Speedy 30 in damier does sound very nice. I think it would be awesome ot have a custom made LV too.

I have no idea what you should do!


1.  If you're getting one anyway, why not take this once in a lifetime opportunity to make an already luxury-bag that much more luxurious?


2.  If you'd be happy with mono speedy, just get that and either save yourself the $250 bucks or buy another nice but less expensive bag/pair of shoes with it.


 


Is there any chance that people might think your bag is (bad) fake, if only because LV doesn't 'make' them to sell?  Just a thought .....

I say definitely order the custom made one. I know if I did, I'd feeling like a celebrity having my very own custom-made bag! And for what it is, it's really not that much more money.

I love all of your points because they are exactly the ones I'm wrestling with.  I think I'm 95% sure I'm getting a Speedy in some shape or form.  The reason I haven't already jumped on the mono Speedy is because I see so many other people carrying it and really obvious fakes too.  But I also thought of the possibility that people would think my bag was a horrible fake because LV doesn't actually sell it ready-made.  But I think I would love my bag regardless cause I'd know it's real and that it was an almost one-of-a-kind.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I see elle's point about people thinking it's fake because they don't actually make it, but you could make the same arguement for the regular bags as well. What people that own them say is that they know, so that's all that matters. And if anyone is tacky enough to ask you, saying it was custom made is about the coolest thing i've ever heard.

Custom made LV bag? Is there another option? if so, i forgot it.


 


That's really once in a life time and yeah, it might "look" fake, but anyone who thought so wouldn't know any better anyway and anyone who recognized the obvious genius in that design wld respect you and your genius fashion sense.

I think getting the custom bag in the Damier is an awesome idea. 


I'd definitely say get it UNLESS there's any chance that you could get the Speedy made in the Epi leather.  Now that, my friend, would be the shit.

gosh- i think this exact same thought every time i look at the red epi leathers on eluxury.  like why the HELL isn't there a speedy shape?  the only one i like is the alma, but i like the speedy shape better.

Hahahahaha...I totally never saw that there were three pages of Epi leather stuff.


So, that bag is incredible.  I'm seriously drooling.    I want the mandarin orange one.  It's so pretty!


Okay, so quick story--last year I was in Miami for a business trip and this lady that I was sitting next to had the Alma in brown epi leather (although I didn't really know that it was an LV at the time, although I had a hunch it was.)  Anyway, we're eating dinner, and she was talking to the guy on the other side of her.  My fork somehow slid on my plate, flinging a big chunk of rice off the table.  So, I looked all around the table on the floor and everywhere, and no rice to be found.  Then, I'm leaning over, looking some more, and her bag is open on the floor, and the big wad of rice was laying in the bottom of her bag!  I didn't know what to do, so I left it there.  I didn't want her to turn around to see me with my hand in her purse getting a chunk of rice out.  I always wonder what she thought when she found a big rice chunk in her $900 LV bag and if she knew it was me.    Okay, story over.
