Does anybody else make New Years Shopping resolutions?
Mine for this year is to stop buying cheaper things and start buying better quaility (ie more expensive) peices. Quality is coming first over quantity this year. Also with that, also not jumping onto trends as much and buying more classic peices.

i'm making the exact same resolution! great minds think alike...
This is so funny that is my resolution EVERY year but then I get sucked in by shiney things and cheap prices haha. I am getting better. Since I've moved I threw out a bunch of my shoes and resolved to buy less but better quality shoes! I have to walk so much more no matter how cute the cheapy shoes are if they pinch they're not worth it!

This is how I've shopped for a few years now and it works really well. For the most part, my wardrobe is filled with pieces I really like and that I'll have for awhile. I still buy cheapie things like tanks from Old Navy and whatnot, but I spend a lot less there and more on better quality pieces.
Good heavens, do I love a tangent!
ANYWAY...my resolution is to buy more accessories. I have pretty much all the basic clothes I need, but I really need jewelry, scarves, shoes, and purses to pull the looks together. (Did I just use the word need? Good heavens, I did. Need being relative, of course.)
I've been trying to do the quality over quantity for some time now, but got sidetracked by the fact that I made a big life change (going from corporate to owning my own biz) three years ago, and had to revamp nearly all my wardrobe since then. I think it's finally pretty together, so for the coming years I am slowly going to add more quality items, things I truly love and can wear for a loooong time.
Owning my own business means that the cash flow is much less (at least in the early years) than my old corporate salary, so I have to be choosier about what I buy, since I certainly can't buy as much as I used to. Which probably isn't a bad thing.
I also plan to stick much closer to my budget (~groan~) and not do as much impulse shopping. I can see a few bans in my future, selectively timed, of course (not during half-yearly sales and such!).
I don't jump on trends much anyway, so that's not been an issue...but I have had a tendency in the past to buy a piece I LOVE and then realize it doesn't quite go with anything else in the existing wardrobe. So this year I started seriously considering the existing wardrobe before purchasing new things, and as a result I have a much more "mixable" wardrobe. I plan to continue this way of shopping for next year.

NC, since you are using the Charlie brown avatar, shouldn't you change this to "good grief" I CB!
This is a lofty goal & I want on the band wagon. I've discovered that since I'm not working much or will be working out of my house that I really don't need tons of clothes. And I have several trendy pieces that by the time I had a chance to wear them, i was really over it. So maybe we can start a support group or something? I really really need help with this.

i think i'm gonna cut my budget back too. i don't buy a ton of cheapie things, but i tend to buy one or two nice things a month- DOH! i'm excited for spring/summer because it tends to be cheaper- the only problem is, here in nyc, people can actually SEE your clothes in spring/summer as opposed to winter, where all they really see is your jacket and bag, sorta shoes or boots if they aren't hidden. so that might sucker me into buying really cute spring/summer things- DOH! anyway- i NEED to start spending less than $500 a month on clothes...i'm starting to feel guilty even though i can afford it. i want to allocate more money towards travel and whatnot. also, i'm gonna start hitting up sample sales more often now that i can.
Hadn't really thought about it yet, but I guess better now than never!
I need to cut my shopping expenses since this year I have accummulated more cc debt (which never used to happen) since I have added new expenses of school loan repayments, car payment and all stuff related, and my rent has gone up (will be living by myslef soon).
Love the notion of quality vs. quantity if only I could ever stick to it! I'm such a "nibbler" when it comes to shopping - I just love the satisfaction of getting this or that almost daily! Please Help! I do need a support group! hehe thanks!
