One of my best friend's boyfriend called... I was like WTF .. I asked him if everything was ok. He said yes, and asked me if there was a way I could take her shopping this week. He told me to pretend like we were going to look for some jewelry for Vinny, and while we were there, ask her to try on some rings, and get her sized -- I said, OH NO YOU DIDN'T, and started squealing EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He got her a 3.2 ct ring and that puppy is waiting for the right size so that he can propose to her on NYE!!!! I am so happy and excited for her!!!!
Now I am wondering how to get her to the store and size her without her suspecting anything?
HOLY CRAP!!!!!! She is gonna freak out! Do you have a cheaper jewelry store, like costume jewelry where they have trays of rings in different sizes? I know it wouldn't make me suspicious & would be pretty normal if a friend & I tried on lots of gaudy cocktail kind of rings. Maybe act like you are looking for one? I mean really, what girl could have a friend trying on a ton of rings & not try on a bunch herself?

I think this is a good idea. I wouldn't think this was weird but if someone took me to a nice store and tried to get me to try on diamonds I might be suspicious. Also, a lot of jewelers just stock a standard display size so unless she happened to wear that size, you'd have to actually have them size her finger, which would definitely look suspicious.
3.2 carats?! Go him! If you don't think you can get her sized without her catching on, her boyfriend can do something sneaky if he lives with her or has access to her jewelry box. He can take one of her rings and trace the inside of it onto a piece of paper and take it to the jewelry store and get her sized that way. I know 2 guys who did this and it worked perfectly.

I've also heard that you can take a ring and press it into a bar of soap to make an indentation. Unfortunately, the fingers on one hand might be a different size than the other hand though, so unless she wears a ring on her ring finger, it might not be exact.
I hope I don't sound stupid for saying this, but can't they just take the ring back in after he proposes to get it sized? That way, she'll know about it and can go with to make sure it fits perfectly? Just a thought - not sure how it works...

This is what my FH did. He actually did take in one of my rings (that I always wore on my ring finger anyway) to see what size it was. But it was old, and apparently after you wear a ring for awhile it loses it's perfectly round shape, so it wasn't able to be sized correctly. He did have it sized down as much as he could without worrying that it'd be too small and then he gave it to me. I was able to wear it without it slipping off, so I did for a week or so and then went in to have it sized down again.
FWIW, I wear a size 6 in costume rings. My engagement ring is a size 5.25. I'm not sure if the sizing guidelines vary or what, or if cheap/expensive rings are like cheap/expensive shoes in that the more expensive ones are usually more TTS.
HTH!

according to him - he wants everything to be perfect and he doesn't want her to have to go back and get the ring fitted.
