I just got mine today, and honestly looked at it for a grand total of 7 mins. It was pretty big. It seemed to be mostly beauty products this time, and it had a lot of the stuff that we had been talking about on the forums lately...most notably some 20s' inspired shoes that are on anthro, lynnie was looking for a boots version. (I REALLY think there is a Lucky spy on here) A lot of the outfits looked baglady, and even made the models look chunky. That is quite an accomplishment, and on top of that my magazine smelled like sex!! I rate this issue 4/10, what about all the other STer "Lucky Girls?"

Bleh. I received it, thumbed through it, and it's still sitting partially-unread on my bedside table a full week later. I agree with you Kisa that some of the models look awful, and some of the 'trends' they 'spotted' where downright atrocious.
And, since it always seems that what we are talking about ends up in the mag, why would we rely on a mag that talks about things that we already finished talking about? I think they call that fashion backwards ....
Now that they're established, they've gotten lazy and they're just sitting back with their Manolos propped up on their desks and raking in the dough. Forget cutting edge! Forget fashion forward! We'll just be mediocre like every other fashion magazine and we'll still make money!

We had them here maybe a week and a half ago, but Canada gets them REALLY late! Anne Hathaway was on the cover btw, I thought she looked pretty, but she ripped off my new haircuit LOL

I used to love Lucky, but I don't think I'm going to renew my subscription. There wasn't a single thing that I fell in love with in this last issue, or even the last couple. Normally I at least see a pair of shoes, but I didn't see a single thing! I also think they do an awful job of creating outfits that work on anyone except tall skinny people. If I had my magazine in front of me I would give tons of specific examples of outfits that absolutely do not work on anyone who's on the shorter side with curves. I'm extremely disappointed with Lucky. I flipped through this magazine, and haven't felt any need to look back through it more carefully. Back in the old days of Lucky, I used to be able to look through it over and over and STILL find things to look at!

My sentiments exactly!! I used to really look forward to getting it in the mail. Now it's just kinda I don't know exactly what happened, but there aren't any outfits I would/could wear.

I actually thought the Dec one was the best one in quite a few months. I was pissed about all the beauty stuff, though. It's a FASHION mag, so I want to see FASHION, dammit!

Ditto! I'm over lucky.
So: what mag are you all looking to now to "fill the void" of the old lucky? I haven't found anything I love for true fashion-forwardness, but I feel like Bazaar is becoming more relevant for me. Is it b/c the mag is focusing on younger people or b/c I'm getting older?

I really love Marie Claire - I don't think it's very "fashion forward", but I feel like they give good information, basically affordable pieces / looks, and it's well rounded with interesting human interest articles & such. Gosh, maybe I'm getting old...

I HATE the beauty sections!!! They drive me nuts, especially when they feature some ridiculously wealthy women and the spas and crap she goes to (always in New York). I feel like it's such a waste of space and time.
I feel like they just don't feature a whole lot of stuff that is really applicable to most of us. I can still get some inspiration though, but it's not what it was once upon a time.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a magazine to take its place. I don't really care for Shop, Etc, and InStyle is good, but it's not the same. I want a magazine that is strictly about fashion. I can't stand Glamour/Marie Claire/Allure because they're always giving sex advice and talking about social issues, and while that's fine and good, all I really want is fashion. And Vogue is just all about "society women" and I think it's so pretentious.
I freakin' HATE the beauty section in Lucky! Maybe I'd be a little more open-minded, but as many of us have found out the hard way, they don't even actually test the products they feature! Every last beauty product I've tried after seeing it in Lucky has been a complete disaster . They just rewrite the info the cosmetics company gives them about the product! Arghhhhhhhh!

i haven't read a mag in a while- grr! as far as replacements- no mag is consistently good, sadly. I have found teen vogue to be AWESOME some months, and completely lacking other months. some of the photo shoots in there are really cool, but it varies. a lot of my favorite ones are from last year though- so maybe its sliding. i like the way they will mix hermes and ferragamo and chanel with contemporary and indie designers, as well as a few lower priced options. Its not like Vogue where everything is $5000 and then they throw in a Gap sweater. I can just picture them smiling smugly thinking that they are doing the "high-low" fashion thing. Teen vogue is fresher and while it is still society (err..society's daughters?) i think it is more interesting. Elle can be good on occasion too.
I hate the beauty section, too!! And it seems that it keeps getting bigger and bigger. And I agree, Lucky is so uninspired.
And seriously, Andrea Linette and her skulls are starting to drive me nuts. Does she have to feature them in every issue??? When I was flipping through the gift guide, I knew instantly which pages were hers from all the black and skulls. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but after 5 years of it, enough already! Find a new schtick!
Unfortunately, I have yet to find a suitable replacement, so I'm hoping that the editors will realize the error of their ways and start publishing a decent mag again.
Is it just me or are they putting more and more ads in this thing? 16 pages devoted to the beauty section which I do not enjoy and 41 PAGES of ads not including ones they use half of the beauty section page! RIDICULOUS! And I wish they would get rid of the spa section in the beauty section. Let's be realistic, I'm no jet setter, and I bet at least 95% of the people who buy this magazine don't globe trot to these spas and the foreign travel shops they feature.
Let's face it, the only reason I buy this magazine is for the Lucky Breaks giveaways (which my winnings far surpass the actual cost of the magazine) and to cut out cute pictures of clothes I like.
Maybe we should write them a letter or something. As for replacement, I think I am going to try Canadian Lucky, LouLou!! In the past it hasn't been very beefy, but maybe it'll look good in comparison. Either way, at least I'll be able to actually GO to the Canadian stores.
