Are you protective of ST?

I find myself acting very protective over Stylethread. I was going to say something to a girl I know but decided against it because I didn't feel she would appreciate it like I do. Anyone else feel this way sometimes?

Haha ya I kind of am.  A girl at work sees me on it, but I don't worry about her.  She likes to look at things and she might eventually join but she isn't someone I am try to keep from it.  I use to be really bad at my old job and then I am bad with my other friends!  Also I always delete the address from my bf's computer so he won't lurk on here!!

I told my bf he was never allowed to come on ST. I only share it with my mommy, no friends.

Totally!  I told my parents about it when I was writing articles so they could check it out - and then could not believe my own stupidity!  'Cause they of course told some of my aunts and uncles ... doh!  I pray they wouldn't care enough to use the post-search function, and that if they did they'd have too many posts to wade through to find anything embarassing!

I feel like if people IRL know about and visit ST, my semi-annonymity is lost.  Makes me wish I'd have chosen a different screen name, too

Very much so, I can't help it. I literally haven't told a single person about this site. My bf knows I'm on here a lot, but he doesn't have the time or interest to lurk or anything. :)

I don't mind talking about ST but I won't tell the name of it to anyone. I don't want any lurkers reading what I post!! I know it's a bit paranoid but there you have. I've started mentioning it to the boy recently but he had NO clue what it's called or what my screen name is. Thank god!

I am very protective! I haven't told most of my friends or family about it.. because if I do, and someday I need to vent about them, then I can't do secretly! Selfish reason, i know.

My husband and my mom knows about it, but I won't really tell anyone else about it.  I just would rather be able to talk openly about stuff.  I feel like I can get a really unbiased opinion here on just about anything and I'd hate to give that up by having people I know on here.

I'm not terribly worried about either my mom or my husband lurking on here.  If they are, then hi guys!!!

I'm totally protective. Not only because I wouldn't want people I know reading what I post, but I feel like having internet friends would be social suicide. For some reason I'm horribly embarassed to spend so much time talking to people I don't know online. Not that I don't love all of you, but I don't think my friends would get it.

Yeah, I'm protective.  Mostly because I feel like ST is my little secret to being fashion forward.  Seattle is still a pretty small city and stuff tends to arrive here MONTHS after they hit New York and LA.  I'm not even very trendy, but I definitely pick up little tricks on ST that my friends think are really innovative and forward thinking.  Also, a lot of my friends aren't very internet savvy, and they still don't "get" the concept of posting regularly on a forum and becoming friendly with the other people who post.

My husband knows I thread on this forum- but he doesnt get it. He is like "do you know those people? You talk about clothes? How boring." But I actually enjoy listening, and seeing what other woman say about fashion, makeup, or just daily concerns. Its nice to know there are other woman out there, that you may not personally know, that go through the same joys over a new sweater, indecision about how something really looks on you, etc...  I have friends that I would not discuss some of these things with- for whatever reason. If I do bring up at work that I bought something: a shirt, shoes, whatever- I usually get " I thought you went shopping last week. Dont you have enough clothes? " The women I work with are so not in to anything about clothes, makeup - and definately wouldnt be online talking about it. Sometimes I think they just fall out of bed, get dressed and head out the door. I would feel so gross all day long! Anyways, good question.

i actually recently had a nightmare about that one boy finding out about ST and reading on here - i don't mind saying that i post on a board or whatever, but i'm so open here that i sometimes worry about my privacy if someone i knew found out.  actually b/c this screenname has become so known around my scene, i'm thinking about changing my name, but i want you all to know it's me ...

what do you think?

should i change it and just tell you all  that it's me?

I've been thinking about this too, but damn!  I'm almost at 3,000 posts!

You (we) could create a new screen name and put your old one in your sig line.  Or maybe DC or Detroit have the magic powers to change your screen name without you having to create a new account?

I am so protective. I haven't told anyone, not even my close friends and family. When I mention something that I read on ST to someone and they asked where I read that, I always just say the internet. I don't want to give it away.

i don't think you should change your name at all.  if you are worried about a specific post- just go back and delete it.  i like your name.  same for Lmonet.

I'm protective too! My husband knows about it, and oddly enough, he understands. I think it's because he has forums that he visits regularly and he knows that i don't know anyone IRL who is as into this kind of stuff as I am. I'm on a lot at work but my computer screen faces a wall and I sit away from the door so no one can ever really see what I'm doing. If someone comes to my desk I close the window immediately.

Oh yeah.  It's really awkward when I want to refer to you guys.  I just say "Oh this one time my *family friend* or *this girl I used to know* told me that blah blah blah happened to her."  I rarely go on at school because I'm scared that someone will ask me what site I'm on.  I don't like that people could read my personal info and most of my friends would probably think I was really vain/huge loser for posting on a forum.
