Weird and gross but here goes...

doing, uh, "your business" when the boy's around. How does everyone deal? Maybe I'm weird but it always makes me feel icky and a bit embarassed. I know I'm lame! I'm just curious if I'm the only one who gets a tad uncomfortable with those situations?

Remember that SATC when Carrie says she does it at Big's apt. for the first time? Everytime I see that ep, I'm like, more details please. Did she do it before she took a shower? Just randomly? After he'd been in there so she knew he wouldn't go in for awhile?

God, this is gross!!!

Always right before my own shower, preferably, so I know I have sole rights to the bathroom for a semi-extended period of time.

Does that help?

This is what I've been doing. I just thought I was weird though. Good to know I'm not the only one!

Nope, not the only one!  I've gotten over it with FH though - the boys have more to be embarassed about than we ever will IMO!  It still makes me uncomfortable when we're staying at someone else's home or someone is staying with us .  Like I didn't have enough to worry about at the in-laws!

omg! I have a friend who's like you. She never closes the door in her house. It totally freaks me out but I think I'm a little bit prudish when it comes to bathroom time. I just don't want to see my SO doing his business. I just assume he feels the same way about me.

For us, the door is closed, and there's always a can of air freshener available... this system has worked pretty well, and usually keeps the embarrassment to a minimum.

We are also a closed-door kind of family when it comes to 'bidness'.  I'm not sure I could deal with an open-door policy, unless we lived in a very large house rendering proximity a non-issue.  Our one-bedroom apartment does not exactly lend itself to being discreet, and besides, the bathroom fan and air freshener are more effective that way.

well i dont see him pushing or he dosent see me pushing it out, we can hear it land sometimes though! Ha, ha, ha! sometimes while he's sitting I'll be standing outside and we will talk to each other ( doors open). when i sit and he does that im okay with that but then i have to tell him to go away if i still have to push or start to wipe. sorry if this was too much info.

Boys don't understand bathroom embarrassment so living with brothers and bfs, you get over being poo-shy fairly easily.

Bf would walk into the bathroom and start chatting or kiss me goodbye WHILE I was on the can. Or come in and do his business while I was showering. And no matter how hard you try and beg and plead, they just don't get it so you just end up getting over it. (Now our new house has 2 bathrooms, hooray!)

Its always awkward at first (I wouldn't fart in front of my bf for like the first 3 years) but eventually it just seems normal and you won't remember why you were so uptight about it.

this thread is cracking me up

BF and I are like Tati. We're pretty cool about it anbd we leave the door open. He listens to Harry Potter books ont ape while on the can and sometimes I can't help but listen. However, if I have to smell it or look at it, I will run away.

OMG I am at work right now and I'm trying SO hard not to laugh.

I come from a closed-door family and my husband and I are strictly closed-door peeps.  And I intend on keeping it that way.  I'm weird about bathroom related stuff though.  I don't like to talk about it, I don't like to hear about it, and it would be fine with me if we could all just pretend like it just doesn't happen.  I'm weird about it.  I've never found poop/fart humor funny although my husband thinks it is HILLARIOUS!

Anyway, I'm still very awkward about it.  If I have to go, I'll go in the bathroom that's furthest away from him.  I don't know if I'll relax about it over time or what.  I'm kinda thinking I won't though.  We've lived together for 2.5 years and I'm still weird about it.

Me too!!! The boy LOVES bathroom humor and I can't stand it. When he and the friend who has the open-door policy get together, I want to run and hide. *shudder* It's awful!!

This is cracking me up! I have what you would call Shy bowels". Cant go anywhere but home- not at work, definately not at someones house, and if I am out of town for the weekend - wont go till I come home. This can be very painful. My husband is of the Can go anywhere at anytime variety- although always shuts the door, and doesnt like me to come in! But has no problem passing gas, he always blames the cats- which is not fooling anyone. Theres my two cents!

Haha!  Mine will blame it on squeaky floorboards.  He doesn't expect to fool me though--he just does it as a joke.  So kind of him.

I'm just like you Lilyann!  I have a shy bladder and booty I can't even pee in public places though.  And in my house (me and my husband) have an open bathroom door thing.  I don't care what he sees and he has called me in to look at some "missiles" that he's dropped.  Gross I know, I don't enjoy that so when he calls me over I say no.  He's tricked me one too many times into going in to look. Dumb boys!
