Does anyone else work at retail and find customers sometimes have a way of sapping all the joy out of your holidays? Some can be so rude, so demanding that Im often glad when it is just over.! This is sad, I know. I work in floral , and today someone brought in a picture of an arrangement that they clipped out of a magazine. She wants it just like picture, in an hour. Ok, I say , can make an arrangement that has a similar look and feel as the picture , but do not have those flowers in stock, but I will try to maintain its color scheme, shape etc... She is instantly irritated and says" Why do you not have these flowers, arent they something you should be carrying right now for the holiday" I am getting steamed, but of course, one must remain pleasant. So, I say , " If you will come back to pick up centerpiece tomorrow evening I will order these flowers for you tonight . She agrees- This arrangement is all hydrangeas, garden roses, and amaryllis- some of the most expensive flowers you can buy... When I quote her a price she is pissed again. "Why do you florists always try to rip people off! Nevermind!" The thing of it is I work in a grocery store- our profit margins, even in the floral dept. are so low, she cant find that price anywhere!! Ok I feel better now- thanks for letting me vent. I hope I get a happy customer tomorrow...:
I completely understand. I hate those customers and it sometimes seems that they outnumber the really great ones. Hope everyone is super nice tomorrow.
I'm in the same boat. I work in retail and they make us work 6 days a week. It really messes up the holiday. I've been doing this since 96'. What I wouldnt give to have off a black friday or xmas week. One good thing I make good money. Catch 22 i guess
Ugh! I hate people like that, retail or no. I firmly believe in only getting irritated at the people who deserve. Don't hate the messenger, you know? I wonder what she would have said if you would have killed her with kindness and said something like, "have a happy holiday season - hope it's filled with happiness and joy" or something cheesy like that. Hee! I would have loved to have seen her face!
I haven't come across anybody with rude behaivor in quite a while. But those people usually are looking for a fight before they even come in the store, so it never has anything to do with you personally. Sure would be depressing to be them, or their friends and family if they still have them!
Oh, how awful! I agree with Cortney that she was probably looking for a fight before she even came into the store.
I hope she went someplace else and got quoted a much higher price and had to pay it because she was too embarrassed to go back to your store after she acted like such a jerk.
Thanks you guys, Yeah, I really do think she was in a bad frame of mind before she even got there- that seems to be the case with most customers when they act that awful. But, had nothing but happy shoppers today- today was a good day!
