Classic Pieces...
Permalink Closed

i have decided that i am going to focus on buying 1 or two classic pieces a year....so far on my "in this lifetime i want to own" list...(lifetime being the key word)

  • burberry trench

  • chanel bag

  • LV (already own)

  • pucci snowboots (kinda random)

  • missoni scarf (this might be my item this year)

  • hermes birkin bag (probably won't happen for a long while)

  • burberry rain wellies (dunno why, but they seem classic to me)

  • hermes scarf

  • tod's driving mocs (not till i'm older)

  • chloe paddington/fendi spy (my bf owes me a black bag and while i'm not sure if these are as classic as the others, i really like both)

  • chanel glasses (already own)

  • manolo, choo, louboutin (in a dream world i would own many of each)

  • dvf wrap dress (already own)

  • the perfect giuseppe zanotti shoes to wear with the perfect LBD

  • judith leiber clutch

  • gucci, prada, marc jacobs bag

just wondering what other classics i'm missing or what you ladies consider classics that might not be to everyone else...

Good list shopgirl82!  I think you listed almost all of my "must haves" except I would add a Chanel suit.

Here's my list....

A big diamond(s)... not necessarily an engagement ring. Just a big rock of some kind so I can channel my inner Elizabeth Taylor.

Chanel bags... plural. I already have one but want more.

A fur coat... I would kill for a full length chinchilla but a full length mink or sheared beaver would be more practical. I wore one of my mom's last weekend and it hurt to give it back.

Manolo maryjanes...see avatar.

DVF wrap dress... I almost bought one last year but didn't. Ahh, the regret. I want one in the vintage cut and in a black and green print but nothing too loud.

A full Chanel suit... I already have a jacket but want a matching ensemble.

Judith Leiber clutch... not that I would carry it anytime soon. If I want to carry one now, my mom will let me carry hers.

A big Gucci bag... I have a vintage Gucci doctor bag and really started to like this brand.

A big Vuitton Epi bag in Speedy, Alma, or Riveria styles... not a fan of Vuitton's but I think these are very classic and nice.

A real tiara... a girl can dream about Prince William.

Classic stuff I already have and will be able to wear forever: Burberry trench and scarf; Chanel bag, glasses, and boucle jacket; quite a few designer bags;  diamond studs; pearl strand;Tony Lama cowboy boots; a collection of Lilly Pulitzer (9 dresses, 3 skirts, 1 bikini, and 2 polos) and 2 pairs of classic Jack Rogers sandals.

i love you sometimes--this is hilarious.  have you ever seen that little book "the bombshell manual of style"? your posts remind me of that sometimes.  anyway, i think you are right--i want diamonds, too--lots of 'em!

I LOVE that book. It hits a little too close to home though

I don't necessarily consider all designer items to be classics for me personally. I am really not that into the big names, though have a weakness for Gucci, and want to replace my purse that mysteriously disappeared back in college! I'd like a doctor bag.

I'm not a scarf wearer, so the Hermes thing doesn't move me, though I think their scarves are very beautiful. I guess my list would be:

- Frye boots

- Second pair of cowboy boots

- Gucci bag (again)

- Chanel jacket

- DVF wrap dress - finally tried one on at Nordie's over the summer and can now completely relate to all the hype about them. I think I want about...oh, ten of them *s*

- I would LOVE to to have a closet full of Manolos and Louboutins. Maybe I could settle for just one of each, someday...

- A nice vintage tooled leather bag

- Silver jewelry from Taxco in the thirties and forties...Spratling, Los Castillo, Margot...I love to watch the auctions on eBay but can't afford the ending bids by any means

- Some Armani and some D&G. They fit me so beautifully! Adios, tailor! ~sighs wistfully~

- vintage wristwatches - not battery-operated ones, but actual Swiss mechanisms that can be repaired and not just replaced. I love, love, love old watches

Things I consider classic that I already own:

- Tony Lama cowboy boots

- diamond studs

- olive green trench

- black wool coat

- leather jacket

- vintage clutches. I love a retro shape, and love it even more if it *wasn't* retro when it was made

- pearl strand (though I never wear it...to conservative for me)

- a couple of great LBD's

- a fabulous, just fabulous evening dress. The only item I own that cost more than it is my wedding dress.

-a pair of Louboutins

-something with the classic Missoni zigzag

-nice investment bag (maybe Gucci?)

-Chanel sunglasses

hmmm...good lists- seems that certain luxury brands have a piece or two that is very iconic.

i guess for me:

missoni bikini- this is for a diff. lifestyle than that i have, sigh.  but if i was summering in st. barts with my celeb friends, i'd wear this.

burberry trench- i guess other brands that are classic will do =)

hermes kelly- i adore the kelly!! i don't get why everyone always wants the birkin!!

pucci dress that isn't too ostentatious but still very signature

DVF wrap dresses- i bought this boden one in red- hope it fits:

Wrap Dress

the perfect black leather knee high boots- both riding boots and ones with a stacked heel

gucci bag, chanel bag

chanel flats

wool pea coat

very long strand of huge tahitian black pearls

pretty much everythig you already mentioned... I'd especially want:

  • dvf warp dress
  • tall black manolo boots
  • a pink chanel bag (I have a black...DH doesn't get why I "need" another)
  • chanel suit (have a skirt, want a set)
  • hemes scarf
  • hermes enamel bracelet
  • rolex or tag men's style watch with diamond bezel (might be my christmas gift to myself this year)
  • and I totally agree with Lynnie on the Kelly- I don't get the appeal of the Birkin. It's nice, but the Kelly is so much cooler!

Great thread!

Chanel Bag- one in black and tan
Chanel Suit- pastel multi
Chanel Ballet Flats- tan with black toe
2 ct. Diamond Studs
Diamond Bracelet
Carolina Herrera black gown
Gucci Bag
Gucci Loafers
Judith Leiber clutch
Pucci Scarf
Hermes Scarf
Hermes "H" Watch
3 Gold Bangles & Gold hoops. Really nice ones!
LV Luggage- I already own 2 pieces but I want more.
LV bags- I usually get one a year, for either b-day or x-mas and they are totally worth it to me.
Cartier- Got 2 rings, watch, necklace and I want more!
Blahnik, Choo, and Louboutin( recently got a pair of these and wow the heel is skinny but they are easier to walk in than others!)
Lilly- One dress a year, I agree with SFC these are the most classic summer dresses you can get.
DVF- I also think you should buy one a year.
Couture Designer black suit.

  • Several pairs of Manolos, Marc Jacobs, Choos, and Louboutins.

  • Speedy 30

  • Gucci horsebit bag

  • A strand of pearls

All this stuff is great...but personally I think the vast majority of my money will go towards travelling.

I've bolded what I already own. Most iconic pieces are too formal for my lifestyle (like I'd never wear a Chanel suit)...these things would all work themselves in nicely.

  • LV Momogram Speedy

  • Chanel sunglasses in black

  • Chanel sunglasses in tortiseshell

  • Chanel ballet flats in black

  • Chanel ballet flats in tan/w black toe

  • Chanel quilted leather purse in black (probably the caviar leather)

  • Hermes Birkin...not sure what color

  • LV Epi Alma in red

  • white gold/diamond studs

  • 10 pairs of Manolos, Louboutins, and Choos (including basic black and brown pumps, plus black and brown knee-high boots)
