These are all really good, but I thought of one that I'm actually a bit embarrassed about.

In Star Wars: Return of the Jedi I always cry during the "luke, i am your father" scene.  It' one of the most joked about movie scenes in history, but I always bawl my eyes out.  His long lost evil father finally becomes good, then dies!  I can't bear it.

In the movie Shawshank Redemption when the old man kills himself, then when Red leaves his room after getting released.

The end of Garden State...don't even get me started.

my embarrassing one...this Christmas Cornflakes commercial where this little girl in pink footie jammies sees Santa eating cornflakes. I don't know why this gets me.

Aww, the Sylvan learning center ones get me too.

Also, the Hallmark card commercials.  There was this one where an old lady checked her mail every day and it was always empty but one day her neighbor sent her a card and it made her feel special and wanted and appreciated.  So bittersweet.

I have also recently started crying on planes. I think its because they remind me of my ex. Which is just so ridiculous. But I've cried the past three times I've been on planes. And I'm really not a crier.

Maddie there was actually a piece on "This American Life" last year about the phenemonon of people crying on airplanes. I'm prone to doing this too and always thought it was just because I'm kind of afraid of flying and I usually travel alone but when my sister and I went to Japan she watched The Notebook and was totally tearing and she is not a cryer at all and she normally hates sappy stuff. I was talking to my friend about it and he linked me to the radio piece.
Edit: here it is in case you want to hear it. It's towards the end of the file.-- Edited by cc at 14:07, 2005-11-30

I loved that! That's totally me. I'm not afraid of flying and I absolutely never cry even when I really want to. Except on the plane. I was actually listening to The Promise by Tracy Chapman though, not watching a movie. Super emotional! I think of that song as the (much inferior) response to Bob Dylan's Boots Of Spanish Leather, so that, combined with being in the air, was killer.

theotherjess' just reminded me of that commercial (maybe for applebee's or chili's, something like that) where the girl sees her elderly neighbor as she is on her way to work at the restaurant and she has to say "no thanks" when the lady asks if she'd like to come in for a snack.  and then she brings takeout to eat dinner with her on her way home.  awww.  so sweet.  it makes me wish that i knew the little ladies in my neighborhood (although the two that live next door to me seem kind of mean and aggressive--i don't think they would want to eat applebee's takeout with me).

Lots of stuff having to do with Christmas makes me a little teary-eyed. Even the Lowe's commerical. "For the holidays you can't beat home sweet home."

The Christmas Shoes song... ugh. Every. Single. Time. By the end of it, I'm sobbing like a baby. My friends and bf won't let me listen to it anymore, it's so bad. I just lose it... it's so sad. And, while we're on songs-- Butterfly Kisses, too. I my daddy.

My Girl gets me evey time too, when Vada goes downstairs to Thomas Jay's funeral. "He can't see without his glasses, put his glasses on..." Oh my goodness, I can't imagine what it would be like to lose my best friend so young, when I don't even really understand it all.

Then there's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I don't even want to watch it anymore, because I know I'll be in tears for a whole hour. I watch it to give them more viewers so that they stay on the air for years and years and years. That is an incredible group of people there, that's for sure.

I cry during most cheesy TV shows (read: Full House, 7th Heaven, etc.). I cry a lot...

There's a commercial (I think it's Visa or Mastercard) where this girl is getting married.  The dad sees his daughter walk in the church and he flashes back to when his daughter was little and she's walking through the same doors saying "Daddy!  Daddy!"  Oh god, it kills me.  And it goes on forever too!  I'm tearing up as I'm writing this.  Seriously.

Seriously, we should watch tv & listen to music together. We could cry & not get laughed at. That My Girl thing is just more than I can take, for real! I got teary eyed over your post. I really need to stop reading this thread - I mean gosh, I'm not even PMSing or anything.

And I haven't even seen The Notebook. It came out on video the week after my grandfather died & one of my friends advised me not to watch it then. And I still haven't gotten up the nerve.

And BEX, I totally know what you mean about Nicholas Sparks. I was crying on page 3, literally of Sam's Letters to Jennifer - HELLO PAGE THREE!!!! Like really seriously ugly crying.

i started tearing up reading this.  any sort of tender daddy moment makes me tear up.  so did seeing my grandpa weak, and seeing my dad have to help him in the days before his death.  there was also this book our teacher read us in 6th grade, it was a childrens picture book, because we had 10 mins. left to the day and our teacher was young and wanted to keep us entertained- where it had a mom rocking her kid to sleep all through their youth (i think?), and then the kid did the same for the mom when the kid had grown up (think it was a son? not sure).  i started tearing up in class and had to hide it because i was so embarrassed.

Candlebox - Far Behind

And that scene in the Last of The Mohicans right before the girl commits suicide by jumping off the mountain, just the way she looked..

Armagedon, Stepmom and this old hallmark commercial with the old lady who would check her mail everyday and she never had any so the woman and son across the street took notice and sent her a Hallmark card.  Also the credit card commercial with the girl that is getting married and her dad has flashbacks of her through the years. It makes me wish my dad was still alive to walk me down the aisle, I try to avoid the commercial at all cost.  I pretty much cry for anything but these get me ALL the time.

OH!  I forgot the one that makes me cry the most.  The Christmas story "The Gift of the Magi" where the wife cuts off her beautiful long hair to buy her husband a watch chain and the husband sells his watch to buy her hair combs.  If you haven't read it, you seriously need to google it right now!

Have you seen Johnny cash in his last video Dirt"? Oh, my god this totally wrenches me to the core. I literally wept when I saw it the first time. There is so much powerful emotion in this song- you must here it. I think that the reason it moves me so much is that he reminds me of my father...

theotherjess, reminded me, I talked about this a little while ago, but Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory. It's soooo good and heart breaking. You must read it. My mom and I read it together and cry every Christmas and other than that my family is so not emotional.

I am not much of a cryer at all, except when it comes to animals.

In "Independence Day" when Vivaca Fox and her son are under the freeway overpass, and they have to escape the giant ball of fire coming at them, and they jump into that little utility closet, and the dog isn't following them, and then at the last minute before the fire comes the dog flies into the closet. I'm teary-eyed just thinking about it!

A couple of human ones: "Stepmom" when Susan Sarandon presents her kids with the special gifts on Xmas morning, and the end of "The Life of David Gale" when Kate Winslet gets to the prison after finding the tape and he's already been executed.

And I get teary-eyed for Christmas commercials, just because Christmas makes me so happy.
