i posted this dress a while back and no one really liked it... but i still do and i saw it on the mannequin at BCBG and thought it looked adorable...

does anyone like it?  ShopGirl82- you work at BCBG- how does this look on people?  specifically someone 5'4?  i might try it on this weekend to get an idea...

i want to wear it for New Years Eve...

if anyone has any other suggestions i would love to see them!

I love that dress! I think it has the potential to be overwhelming if you're 5'4", but should be ok with heels.

pooh on whomever said they didn't like it! that dress is stunning. elegant yet very stylishly forward. i think that as long as you keep everything else to a minimun in the outfit (no flashy jewelry, no flashy shoes, no flashy purse, simple hair) then you will be fine. but you will prolly need to wear high high heels, like three inches. the color is fantastic on too. you will be the belle of the ball.

i actually tried this dress on yesterday.  it was soooo beautiful on the hanger and i couldn't wait to try it on.  they only had a size 8 (im usually a 4 or 6 there) but i tried it on anyway.  it was a little big on me in the top, but not terribly but all the fabric on the bottom was really overwhelming (im 5'5" by the way).  it's hard to tell if i would have liked it if it were in my size.  im so sorry to tell you i didn't like it, b/c it is an adorable dress.  i would say just go try it on if you can.  that's really the only way to tell.  hope that helps!!

I agree with everyone else - I it in theory, but you'd need to try it on to know if it would work on you.

Are you normally able to wear full skirts and such?

It depends.  If the top is right- It sometimes works.  I'll just have to try it on this weekend and see how it works out... or i might slip over there tomorrow and try it on and report back ASAP to you- perhaps I'll pull a Lilykind and take a picture in the dressing room to get your opinions.

bex- that dress is beautiful!  the only things worth noting:

  • imo it's a dress for the girls.  if that makes sense.  it's puffy (taffeta) so a lot of times when girls have brought their bfs in, they don't like it.  when they bring their girlfriends in, they love it.

  • it's hard for anyone who has a short torso or thicker waist, when this happens, i tell people to tie the bow in the back because the bow can be overwhelming.

  • it's a loud dress (sorry, i thought it was worth noting).

  • and last but not least, it sold out in black and red within a week at our store and the other chicago store (it was showcased in all bcbg windows...) so you might have to order it from a bcbg store in order to try it on (PM me if you need help finding it).

that being said...it is beautiful, and i would have totally bought it just to have it, if it didn't sell out.  also, and this is probably the most important, based from your posts, i think it TOTALLY fits your personality and if anyone could wear it, you could!  it's a perfect NYE dress.  sorry to be a buzzkill with the other things, but i wanted to be honest.  i've seen it on more petite girls and it works (it's cut shorter, the smaller in size you go) so i don't think it would overwhelm you.

let me know if you have any questions.

GREAT feedback everyone- esp. ShopGirl82!  They had it in red in the window of my BCBG store so I'll check there and Nordstrom's tomorrow and see if they have it in my size.  If not, I'll PM you (shopgirl82) for help in locating it.

TIA!  i'll post back when (and if) i find it tomorrow!

I got it!!!!!!

I went to my BCBG store today and the SA smiled and asked me if i was looking for anything (she was on the phone while asking me).  I said, yes, I was looking for the "bubble dress"... she sorta grimaced and asked what color... i said red... a slight look of relief went through her face... she then looked me up and down and asked cautiously, what size... i replied "6".  she whipped around, pulled a red bubble dress in a size 6 down from behind her and said "its the only one in the store- looks like it was meant for you!"  and (!) she was on hold with another store trying to locate the same dress in another size for another customer!!!  just like ShopGirl82 said- that dress is flying off the racks and is extremely coveted...

I tried it on and it looked adorable!  soooooo I bought it!  I will post pictures tomorrow... i had to leave it in my car tonight b/c my boyfriend beat me home and i didn't want to hear it about buying a dress.... *sigh* boys just DON'T understand sometimes!  the SAs all said I looked very SJP in it!  yippee!!!!

thanks for all your advice on the dress!  I'll post with the shoes I plan on wearing with it too... but I'll need your help with jewelry...

Thanks again!

i think that dress is so cute--and perfect for NYE!  i'm glad you got it.  i've been passing by it in a shop window on my way to work for weeks and admiring it.  i don't remember you posting about it before, but i would have said that i loved it.  i think you should go really simple with the jewelry and do some fab over-the-top shoes.  looking forward to seeing the pix!

Yay!  I'm so excited for you-- what luck!  And I just wanted to say that your comments always remind me of Becky Bloomwood from the Shoppaholic books, especially these.  And it just so happens you have the same name.  Coincidence ?

So exciting! I can't wait to see pics! I think you should stay very classic and very SJP for that dress. I either see diamond drop earrings that she wears in her Lovely ads, or some pearls like that also!

I adore that dress.  I am so glad you got it!  Can't wait to see pics!!  It's perfect for NYE, and I agree it'd be smashing with simple jewelry a la SJP.
