okay first off- why can't i spell dilema??  how do you spell it???

anyway- BF and i spoil each other rotten for Christmas... in years past he has always bought me way more because he could afford to- and for the first time in our relationship- i can buy him as much this year and i want to in order to "give back" for all the christmases that he helped me out...

so, he is into french cuff shirts lately but has no cuff links- so i bought him Tiffany's cuff links with his initials engraved on them.  I also bought him a BR french cuff shirt and 2 blazers.

Now, he picked out a pair of sunglasses he really liked (Prada $200) and he thinks he is getting them.  I feel bad b/c he keeps talking about them and is really excited about them.  However, when we were in Nordstroms this weekend- he tried on a pair of MiuMiu sunglasses that were $140.  I thought he looked hotter in the MiuMiu ones than the Prada ones and thought maybe I should just go ahead and get them for him since he thinks he is getting sunglasses and he  DOES need a new pair of sunglasses....

but it will tip me a bit over on the budget... but its worth it since he took care of me financially all these years past when i had no $$$, right?

I wouldn't over-extend yourself.. Could you return one of the blazers and get the sunglasses he wants? If it were me and I asked for one thing and got another.. i might be a little disappointed. You already said you are doing more than you normally do so I wouldnt risk breaking budget and putting yourself out there for another $100. BF loves you for you and not for what presents you buy him.. Remember that!

it will only put me over by $50... he didn't get all gung ho on talking about the sunglasses until after i told him i bought his present (the cuff links) and then he starting talking about them all the time b/c he thought that is what i got him... if i would have known he wanted the sunglasses so badly- i would have gotten those straighaway.

Hmmm... tricky, tricky. I'd take back one of the blazers (that way he still has a complete outfit with one shirt and one blazer) and buy the sunglasses. That way you're still in your budget (right?) and he gets what he wanted plus some. Would you be willing to take back one of the blazers?

To me, there's no sense in going into debt for gifts. He'll be happy and surprised with whatever you get him. If you can take back a blazer and afford to get him the sunglasses, everyone's happy, imo. What do you think?

I would just get him the sunglasses. I would probably get him the prada ones, because he must like the way he looks in them. $50 over isn't that much right?

Taking one of the blazers back is a good idea to get the sunglasses he is talking about.

One year my parents told me to make a list of things I wanted and my top priority was an inexpensive down throw.  I made a point of really wanting this, but did not get it.  I was a bit dissapointed, especially because I got a lot of useless stuff that could have been a down throw instead!

if i bought him the blazers without his input- i would take back a blazer and get the prada sunglasses.  however, we went together and picked out his blazers (so he could try them on for fit) and one is brown and one is black to go with everything in his closet...

i guess since he really wants the sunglasses- i'll just go a bit over budget.  when i had no money my BF supported me and helped me out... i imagine somewhere along the line i owe him $50- so i'll just go ahead and get him the glasses and be done with it...

i know he'll love what i get him no matter what- but i just feel like this christmas is the first time i ever had money to actually spend on people (shopping for others is much more fun than shopping for yourself IMO) and i really want to pay people back for the kindness they showed me when i had no money...

thanks for your thoughts... i'll just bend his budget a little and go for it!

i am exactly the same way--i tend to go way overboard, but i like doing it, so it's okay.  i have one idea for you, if you find yourself really over-budget and stressed about it--you could hold off on giving him the sunglasses (or one of the blazers, i guess) and give to him for valentines' day, which is only about 6 weeks later.

Bex, I'm officially admiring you this week. (Pretty in Pink reference - geeky I know.) You're so sweet! I agree that shopping for others is so much more fun than shopping for yourself. (At least at Christmastime. )
