I really really need a brown bag and I was hoping to stumble across something cool for like $100 but that isn't happening and then I thought I'd limit myself to around $200 but everything I love is more in the $300-400 range. Boo. I want something that's acceptable for work in terms of size and style but something that I could use on weekends as well. Here's what I'm interested in so far. Feedback, thoughts, other suggestions?
The famous Hand Maid bag. I think it's around $205 with the code. Measurements: 12.5 x 9.5 x 7 pros: style is good for work and weekends, decent size, seems durable cons: I'm not madly in love with the style, 2 girls here have gotten bags with poorly matched leather and that would drive me bananas
Carmina bag. $175 on sale plus $ 13.95 shipping. Measurements: 7.5"l, 10"w pros: really cute for work, the STers who have it rave about it cons: don't like it as much for weekend wear, not so into the plastic hoops esp. in terms of durability, also I am kind of anti-Anthro and am really annoyed by their shipping fees.
Tano Beegee, around $150 +shipping. This is the ginger color, hopefully I'd be able to find it online in chocolate as well. Measurements: 8"H x 13"L x 4"W pros: love the shape, it reminds me of the Bulga which I want but can't afford, fits most of my criteria cons: don't know how I feel about the shiny leather, kind of boring
Miel, sample sale bag for $200 + $? shipping. Measurements: Width-16" (at widest point), Height-9 "
pros: love the shape and details cons: might get sick of the color and the gold detail. If only it were a darker brown or had brown or tan trim!

Oh yes please!! I'm not on the Anthro email list (though I get a new catalog every time I turn around). At least then I can order it and see how I feel and will only have to deal with return shipping if I change my mind.

well my handmaid bag is waiting at home for me right now, and i'm praying that the leather on it isn't mismatched (it would drive me crazy, too). if it is, it's going back, but i'll post about it once i actually see it.
i also really like the tano. the miel bag is cute too, but i'm with you on the gold. and i'm just not into that anthro bag at all.

I have this bag and I love it. The picture does it absolutely no justice. The bag is gorgeous in person. The bag isn't made by Anthro, so no quality issues there. The leather is SO nice and really soft but sturdy. Plus, there's free shipping! I think I paid like $10+ for shipping so act today, cc! Let me know if you have any questions.

cc i love the 4th bag! i feel like it's very you! have you seen it in person? what's the quality like? however i understand what you mean about possibly getting sick of it. i have to say as a pro though it seems like the one that would translate the best thru the entire calendar year.
my second favorite is hand maid one. i've seen that one in person and it looks so much more expensive than its retail price. i love the leather on it and think it would work well for you in the office.
I really love the Anthro one. I think you could totally work it for the weekend. I'm not really into the last two at all and for some reason the Handmaid isn't speaking to me for you. Plus you could get free shipping.
I vote for the Anthro bag (it's by Mitzi Baker). I actually ordered it myself a couple of days ago and can't wait to finally see it in person! I was convinced by how pleased theotherjess and lynnie were with their bags. And yes, you automatically get free shipping for orders over $150 but today is the last day.
I saw the Anthro/Mitzi Baker bag IRL at a store (for full price...what bee-itches) and it really is so very nice. I think I would've bought it if I didn't have my Speedy as a brown bag. The plastic handles are actually not cheap looking IRL...they look more tortiseshell-y. The leather is awesome quality...better than any other bag in that price range by a mile. I actually like it with more casual weekend stuff a lot.
haha, girls- i ordered the brown anthro bag yesterday as well. i will now have a black and brown, i lovvvve the bag though, and i think they fit diff. purposes. i was actually planning on using the brown as a weekend and casual bag. the leather is VERY nice for a $175 bag- very nice for a $350 bag as well.
cec--i'm late to this party, but i like the handmaid one. i think it's the most versatile and you can dress it up or down. now i am thinking of ordering it in black because i need a black bag in the same way you need a brown one, and i can't afford to spend $600 on it. where can you order it with a code that makes it $205?
bumblebee - if you order from handmaidbymichellefrantz.com use "holiday" for 35% off, which makes the bag $206 and change.
i got mine yesterday, in brown, but i'm 99% sure it's going back. while the leather on the front matches, texture-wise, the color is a little darker on one half than the other, which will drive me nuts. also, it's not as large as i thought. for $200 i want to love it, and i don't. sigh...

lynnie- does the smaller sized anthro bag come in black as well? i really want it as a black bag, but it's not online and my store didn't have it.. thanks!
