Mount Ida / Hot Springs, Arkansas - trip & pixs
Permalink Closed

We had such a great trip! I have to say, this is a totally different vacation than I am used to taking. I am SUCH a beach girl & I have never had any desire to do anything else. Now if I win the lottery I will need a beach house & a house in the mountains somewhere! Sorry if this gets long & boring, but I said I'd share, so I am!

Wednesday we drove from Dallas & it took us for evah (should be about 4 1/2 hrs) - we went with my DH's parents & his mom has serious back issues so we stopped a lot, but they were a lot of fun because we'd stop anytime we saw something cool - like we stopped at a diamond mine & some cute shops in small towns along the way. I've never been on vacation like that - we always went STRAIGHT to where we were going.

So Thursday & Friday we went to two different crystal mines - it was so much fun! I think I have a ton of "rocks" but we'll see after they are cleaned up. These pictures are extreme examples of natural crystals found there (& my cute pink boots for scale).

First pix is me & FIL on the mountain - look at that view! Second is the mine the second day - very much better for crystals, but again, the view is incredible. Pictures really don't do it justice. See the little bitty person in that second mine? That is how HUGE it is.

Me at the tower in Hot Springs, then pixs from the tower (very high, don't know how high, but you get the idea) - I guess I thought Hot Springs would be...bigger. I forget that most Americans don't live in a big city. Makes me miss living in a smaller town, well, except for the shopping & non-existence of Target & starbucks...

Hubby & parents in front of a hot spring

Anyway, I will update pictures after we clean our crystals - you have to put them in some kind of acid to get the red clay off of them & we aren't doing that until next weekend, so I'll let ya'll know if i just ended up with rocks or some crystal too!

Wow, amazing pics!  Thanks for sharing.  I love Hot Springs, haven't been in about 15 yrs.  You are so cute too!  I got a few shots near my stepdad's place that were pretty similar.  Other than seeing family, the reason I go to AR is to see the trees.  As you know, we don't have trees here in big D.

that is SO beautiful.  I adore fall leaves and i love mountains/hills more than anything- more than beaches i think!  i love rugged beauty.  i have this recurring dream where i'm on a really tall hill at dusk/twilight, looking at [japanese city with mt. fuji in the background- tokyo? prob not] sparkling below with mount fuji in the background.  there is a cool breeze, like i have to cross my arms on occasion, but its still kinda warm.  must come from childhood summer trips to the mtns. in north carolina every year until i was 14 or 15 (blowing rock/boone for those familiar) combined with my love of miyazaki anime.

eta: probably mainly sparked by this photo- scratch the other reasons (though might be why i love it so much)- i saw this photo and its haunted me ever since. hmm..gonna start a post about it in polls.
