my hair person- update

so she has been cutting my hair for years.  i sometimes cheat on her and go to someone else for a change, but always end up going back to her.


she has 2 children and has decided to sell her salon and just stay at home with the kids.  fine.  she just wants to cut friends and families hair.  i guess i fit into the friend category.  she will do my hair at her house. fine too, i guess.


heres the issue.  i have an appointment wednesday, and she just called to say, "hey tara, just reminding you of your apt at 11.  i can only take cash and won't be able to do your eyebrows anymore."  call me for directions.


am i being a bi%ch?  i just want to sit in a salon, get my brows waxed, my hair cut and colored, and relax.  i don't want to hear her kids running around and screaming.  which they do.  i don't want to go to the bank and get the freaking cash out either; for the past however many years, i have used my debit card.


what to do?  is it too late to cancel?

I agree w/Maddie - I'd suck it up and go this time since it's on Wed, but after Wed, I'd find someone/somewhere else that's more convienent for you.

i agree too. maybe it wont even be that bad like you think it will....good luck.


 


and no your not a bitch, i wouldn't want to get my hair done w/kids being loud either. just go this time, check it out and if you dont like it and just dont go to her again.

i would go but if she makes you pay salon prices, make that your last time.  i got hooked up when i moved to chicago because my brother's friend works at a salon, but does it out of her home for more than 50% off of what i would pay at a salon (it's win/win for both of us because it's cheaper for me, and she can pocket all the money, and not give it to the salon.  it's cool cuz we drink beer/wine/coffee and i can get it done at random times.  she does not have kids running around though. 


pm me if you want to know how much she charges me to get an idea.

so i go to her house with the loud kids, get my hair cut and colored for the same price as it would have been at the salon, and now i have orange-ish hair.


i'm getting it fixed tomorrow by someone else, but i'm so irked.  i'm breaking up with my hairdresser for good.  it was a toxic relationship.

Oh no!  I feel bad because I told you to go to her this one last time   I do think you should call her and tell her you aren't happy w/the color and it's not what you wanted - any reputable hairdresser would fix it for free.

don't fret !  i would have felt bad and gone anyways.  as for fixing for free, i don't even want to go back !  i'm not rich right now, but i'm just not in the mood to have her be all crabby with me for not liking my hair; so i'll pay.  she is reputable, but a bit moody.  it just makes me so mad !!!

I wouldn't go to her anymore.  I know breaking up with a hairdresser is hard, but in the end, it is more important for your hair to look good.  I broke up with my last hairdresser after she moved from the lux salon she worked at to a lower end salon.  At first I thought, "This is great.  I can pay less and get the same stuff done."  It didn't really work out like that though.  I think the new salon's dye formulas weren't as good because I never liked the color as much and my hair got a lot drier and frizzier.  So, after a couple times, I went back to the lux salon and got another hairdresser who I'm happy with.  It was hard because my old hairdresser even called twice, once to see why I hadn't been there for a while, and another time when she moved to some other salon.  I just didn't answer the phone and felt terrible about it because I went to her for 3 years.  I had no idea what I would even say to her.


I think sometimes the products available at the salon play a role in how good your hair comes out and I'm guessing your hairdresser isn't splurging on the same stuff she was using at the salon and that is why your hair turned orange.  Also, if you are going to have to deal with loud children and all the discomforts that go with being at someone's house instead of a salon, she should be charging you less money.  She gets to keep every penny so she is probably making around the same as she was at the salon if she is keeping even 1/5 of her clients.

good for you for breaking up!  that is so wrong of her to charge you the same price as when she was at the salon b/c of the breakdowns in the pay structure (which i could whip out for you- but it would be boring and you would hate me for it!) 


AJ is right- she probably isn't springing the cash for the better dyes, plus her water might be a factor, she isn't paying a chair fee (if she's booth rent) or getting a % back for her service if she's commission... so she should be charging you a lesser price by doing it at her home.  wrong wrong wrong to do that to you!


get yourself to a better place- and if you don't know- ask someone with gorgeous hair!  thats what i do/suggest when people are looking for a new person... good luck girl!  relationships with hair stylists are almost as hard to break off as with a boyfriend!  sometimes harder!

my brother's friend does it for me and she broke down the prices for me and i was floored how much salons charge.  i am even more floored that she charged you salon prices.  i am in utter disbelief.

It's all about the stylist.  I have had my hair look perfect after having it done by a cosmetologist friend for $10 bucks in her mother's garage and I have had it turn out brassy with hot roots at a salon that charged me $130 where I was unfamiliar with the stylist.  When that happens, it's so alarming that I don't want to even let them touch my hair again even if it's to fix it for free.


Trust me, I have been platinum, to brown, to red, to honey, to highlights, back to brown time and again.  You really can get good quality hair coloring with cheaper supplies from Sally Beauty, but only if you know what your hair will do and your stylist knows you well and is careful and experienced.  But it sounds like this sylist just wasn't your match whether she was doing hair out of her home or in a fancy salon.  So good that you are breaking it off.  Good luck finding a better sylist, best advice is like someone else said, ask people with nice hair where they go.

That sucks tara! I'm very sympathetic to bad hair experiences because I cherish my hair so much. Vain but true. At least you don't have to feel bad about not going to her anymore!
