i think when you get back, maybe just discuss things that need to be discussed and leave it at that.  that's what i did with my roommate.  it was weird because we were best friends when we moved in together, but it seemed like everytime we talked, that's when we started to hate each other, so i just stopped talking to her unless i had to.  if she was going out, i would ask her where she was going, just to be nice (not fake).  or ask her how her break was, but that's it.  i would tell her that i was going to this bar, but never ask if she wanted to go, sometimes she would come with, but i had my other friends there too, so i wouldn't really have to chat too much with her.  we were cordial but never spent too much time together, more in passing than anything.  i don't believe in blaring music to piss someone off, or being passive aggressive.  it's childish.  i think if you just live your life, and she lives her, you two should be fine for the rest of the year, obviously you opened the door to communicate and it's not working out, so there's really not much else you can do.  she's not going to take responsibility for how she is, and doesn't seem to want to change, so let her be that way....

shopgirl, thanks for your story. I think that's pretty much what I hope to do. We run in entirely the same social group and have pretty much all the same friends, which might make it hard. My position on this changes hourly, but now I'm thinking I'll just send some sort of brief response and then figure it out when we get back. I know that I'll be able to remain calm in person, while she will just flip out.

I defintely did not send those with "spoiled/psycho bitch" on them. It was just what came to mind to replace her name with. Although I wouldn't say I necessarily err on the pacifist side, I do err on the calm and controlled side. I would never send an email with that on it, and would also never even send the second email I wrote as it's too inflammatory and doesn't work towards a solution. But if you think it's offensive for me to even think/write it, well I obviously did that and it's not really something I have any ethical qualms about.-- Edited by Maddie at 12:36, 2005-11-22

haha, i totally would think that too- i have had two psycho bitch roommates to be exact. I just would never call them that to their face

So I ended up not emailing her back and I planned to just talk to her today when I got back to school. I had this whole speech planned out, but basically as soon as I tried to say something she was like, "Whatever, I don't care anymore, I'll try to be better, I just don't want this to be a big deal." Whatever. We'll see how it goes. We're fine for now, but I don't really see this as a solution. Oh well. Thanks everyone!
