How do you get your feet into non-zip tall boots

I give up.  What is the secret?  I can't get them in.  I have skinny chicken legs, so it isn't an ankle or calf problem.  My foot just cannot find its way to its home when I try on boots without zippers.

Trouser socks!  The sheer, silky kind.  I think they're called 'boot socks' or some such nonsense?

you definitely need some kind of trouser socks, but even with them they can be hard to get on at first.  once you wear them in, it's much easier.  but, anyway, roll them down, then put your foot in, then roll them back up.  works like a charm and saves you from stretching out & messing up the boots.
