I want to get a pair of the 12" campus boots but I have several questions first:
1. Are they comfortable and durable? 2. Worth the price? 3. If not worth the price or just because less $$$ spending is better - any alternatives that look similar to the campus? 4. Are they pull on or do they have a zipper? 5. I have wide calves (from skating and running) - how does the shaft of the boot fit? I can measure my calves and repost if that helps.
Thank you all so much for any advice you can give me!
1. Are they comfortable and durable? yes very comfy and really durable 2. Worth the price? this is always a tough question to answer b/c it really depends on how much you'll wear them and why you want to buy them. in terms of longevity, quality i think they are definitely worth the price. but at the same time, if you only wear them twice a year then it doesn't make sense to drop a ton of money on them. 3. If not worth the price or just because less $$$ spending is better - any alternatives that look similar to the campus? iirc rocket dog made some similar styles, i think they are available at shoes.com and/or delias 4. Are they pull on or do they have a zipper? pull on 5. I have wide calves (from skating and running) - how does the shaft of the boot fit? I can measure my calves and repost if that helps. i think they would work, but n/s
Very comfortable, but there is a breaking in period
Very durable
Very worth the price, I had a pair of boots similar to Frye Campus' and I still want to wear them, but they didn't last. So they will last forever in the fashion world as well as in durablity
Pull-ons
The boot opening is sufficient for athletic calves
Are they comfortable and durable?: Yes, very much so. I have worn these in the rain, on dirt roads, and walking through NYC all day. They are quite comfortable, especially considering that they actually have a heel heigh of 2" and a riased platform in front of about 1". They're very solid and sturdy as well
Worth the price? I paid $125 for mine...they are worth every cent. I wear them with so much...even black looks cool with my saddle boots.
If not worth the price or just because less $$$ spending is better - any alternatives that look similar to the campus? IMO any imitation won't last as long.
Are they pull on or do they have a zipper? Pull On
I have wide calves (from skating and running) - how does the shaft of the boot fit? I can measure my calves and repost if that helps. I have wide calves as well (mine are primarily from dancing, volleyball and fencing). The Fryes have a pretty wide shaft opening. My calves fit perfectly so the shaft is flush against my skin...does that make sense? They do get a little wider after you break them in some.
If you don't want to pay full price for Fryes you might want to check out this site. I got my 14' campus fryes from here www.grapevinehill.com They have "factory seconds" fryes which I guess means that some of the boots have a small flaw but they sell them for about $150. My Fryes came with a small scuff on the toe (which was disclosed) and my Dad used some shoe polish on it and it came right out. Anyway, the customer service was really good and I think they have a return policy. HTH.
