Here's an update on my chocolate lab Cocoa.  We took her to a specialist last week who found that on top of the tumor in her pancreas, she also has colon cancer.  So, yesterday we took her back there to get an ultrasound so they could see the whole picture of what was going on and get more information.  They said that based on the pictures, she would definitely need surgery and possibly chemo, depending on what we decide to do.  They ended up keeping her overnight last night, and today they are going to do a biopsy to find out what kind of cancer  we are dealing with so we can figure out a treatment plan.  We're not going to give up on her!

It's amazing some of the comments I've received, people seem to not be able to censor themselves.  It makes me feel glad that she's our dog and not someone else's who would put her down right away without even finding out what's really going on!  I guess to some people dogs are not worth the time or money if they get sick.  *end rant!*

some people lack depth and compassion, and view dogs as a fashionable object to add to the family visuals.  unless people are going to take in an animal as they would a valued member of the family - as a child - they should seriously rethink getting a pet.  it's a committment to the pet until they die - not until they get too expensive or inconvenient - a lot of people just don't look down the road and take that into consideration, then they don't want to deal with it when it comes along.

I agree with Detroit 100%.  And ((((hugs))))) to you beachgirl for being such a caring doggy-Mama.  Cocoa's lucky to have someone that cares about her so much!

I hope really, really hard that Cocoa gets better fast .

And I would absolutely not be able to control myself if I encountered people like you have beachgirl, who make awful comments.  They will ALWAYS get a string of choice words and a ticket straight to Hell from me .

i know how you feel - when my dog was hit by a car a few years ago, people would ask "well how much are you going to spend on her?"  i'd say "whatever it takes to fix her" - i just don't understand the "pets are disposable" train of thought.

good luck to you and to cocoa - she's lucky she has such a loving mama!

Anyone who would not go to the ends of the earth to save their dog doesn't deserve a dog.  Cocoa is lucky to have you as her owner!! I hope that she pulls through! Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone.  We're able to bring her home tonight, and then we'll find out the results of the biopsy tomorrow.  I'm so glad we'll be able to bring her home though  =)

I totally agree with this. Very well put.

You are an amazing person for having the same loyalty to your pet that she has for you.
