New Job= New Wardrobe!!
Permalink Closed

So...no matter which job I choose, I need a wardrobe upgrade.  All of the places are on the casual side of business casual, but my job (any of the jobs) will require me to meet and greet with the public and clients at events.  For every day work, I can do business casual, but for events, I'll need to dress up more.  So, help!  I'm so bad at business dress!! I can still be creative b/c of the job I'm doing, but I want to look professional, too.

Post anything you can think of for me, pleeeeeease! Thanks!!!!

Do you need suits or are you just looking for some nice work seperates?

i'm not much help with the suit part, because i look really silly in them.  as for seperates, i'm a huge fan of BR.  so i buy them, but never wear the pants and blazer together.

i love wrap dresses for work too.  it's much quicker to wear a dress than it is playing the matching game in the morning.

but here's some stuff i'd get.

i'm a big fan of shirts like the black one above.  i also wear ribbed turtlenecks alot.

i think my outfits are pretty basic, but i like to make it cooler with a fun bag, shoes or jewelry.

Like tara t, I'm a big fan of Banana for work stuff.  I also get a lot of stuff from Express, so here's some of my picks.

or

By the way - I didn't mean to post everything in black/white/neutrals - most of what I posted comes in a bunch of colors!

I HIGHLY recommend Banana Republic for suits.  I know you probably don't want a suit, and they're not the most fun thing to buy, but I have two BR suits and I LOVE them.  I think buying the entire suit (skirt, pants, and jacket) is a great way to go because you can wear them as separates on more business casual days and then wear them as a suit for occaisions where you'll need it.  You can usually get them on sale too, so that helps cut down the cost a ton too.  (Or look out for price adjustments--I got one on a suit once and they gave me $133 back!)

Obviously you have a lot of clothes in teal, pink, brown, and purple, and I think you should get a suit that will work well with those colors--maybe a pretty grey or brown and then you can use all of your fun tops to make the outfit more creative.

I also recommend getting a few pencil skirts or a-line business skirts in some neutral colors that go well with your existing colors pallette.  They'll help you bridge the gap from being casual to business casual.

Mostly separates.  I'll probably buy two suits, but that's not priority.

I work in a business casual office, and try to wear basics with a twist.  My inspiration comes from movies - have you seen Hitch?  I looooooove the way Eva Mendes dressed in that movie.  Or Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy, Ashley Judd in Someone Like You - classic, but interesting.

For basics, I like turtleneck sweaters, you can do a lot with them.

The BR one comes in lots of colors.

I love BR's dress pants for work, too.

I agree w/NCShopper, I think you'll find that you can work some of the clothes you already have, maybe some of your funkier pieces in w/some new pieces.  Maybe through a cute blazer over a funky top - you get the idea.

Here's some more stuff:

Lux Short Sleeve Fitted Blazer I have this and it's very versitile

Kimchi & Blue Peplum Velvet Jacket I know you've been eyeing this and I think you make it work-appropriate.
