Hats for my mom

Good morning, I need help finding some hats for my mom.

She is going through chemo, and her wig isn't comfortable enough to wear all day, so she wants a hat to wear around the house. Right now she is thinking a bucket or cloche style. Her head is pretty small, and without hair, it is even smaller, so it would be best if it were from a brick and mortar store so she could try it on, or from an internet store that offers free returns/exchanges.

Any help is truly appreciated!

Target usually has a nice selection of hats.

How would she feel about rocking a fedora? They have a bit of additude and maybe they might help her feeel empowered during what I'm sure is such an out of control time in her life.

Or what about a pretty head scarf? That might be more comforatble for wearing around the house than a hat?

I'll keep your mom in my prayers and hope for an easy & successful chemo series for her.

Like Boots suggested, a head scarf might be more practical and actually be better. In larger cities, there are generally "breast cancer shops", I imagine that wherever she's gotten her wigs also sells turbans and scarfs and/or could point her to a good shop.

Based on my previous experiences, some of my bc patients mentioned that hats were heavier and that during particularly rough chemo schedules, it was just too much weight. Plus, some of the fabric that hats are made out of (wool, felt, velvet) can be itchy and hot.

But if your Mom is set on a hat, I would head over to Target and peruse their aisles. There's always a ton of different options. I know that larger department stores often have hat sections, like Macy's, Nordstroms, those type.

Thanks ladies, both for your help and the well wishes. She has tried scarves, but doesn't like the look of them on her, and she hates the "chemo hats" that she has seen. She wants a regular old hat (we are also going to sew some hair to the back on one so she can toss it on to run out, but not have to wear her wig for quick trips, but she wants a hairless hat for around the house too). And, yes, they are scratchy, so I'll be lining them for her too. She's 60 and feels like a little old lady or like she's trying to look young when she chooses a hat. Pair that with an aversion to chemo hats and scarves, and I am going nuts trying to find the right one for her.

I have a suggestion. When you find one that she likes, get a second one as a back up. Anything that will make the next few months easier for both of you is worth it.
