I think yes you can pull it off. I was watching Oprah yesterday and there was a huge segment of the show designated to the perfect jeans. Stacy London from What Not To Wear had on a pair of skinny jeans. Basically she said that you can wear them if you have some height (I think she said 5'6" or taller) and aren't really hippy. You of course can have some hips she said, but not pear shaped if you wear them. She had on a pair of really cute ones by Levis called "low rise skinny".

I was watching that too & wanted to add that she said there is a big difference between "skinny" jeans & tapered jeans (which are always a no no). I hadn't thought of it that way, but even the audience was gasping over the idea that someone wear skinny jeans - i think we've just had it pounded into our heads that they aren't flattering so we don't even try them on anymore...

Yes...I caught that too. Even when I saw Stacy's on her my first thought was "Why is she wearing tapered jeans?" but then after she explained the difference between skinny and tapered I could see they weren't tapered. They looked good on her.
well let me see if i can explain it right , skinny jeans fits slim all the way down but they are not real high waisted and creating ice cream cone look, its hard to explain but iam on the look for a pic so it will make sense -LMonetordetroit I may need your help finding pics i know you are good at this ,the pair you show here is a good pair of skinny jeans but since you are thin those will look fine on you
I think I would classify your new jeans more as 'straight leg' or 'narrow bootcut' rather than 'skinny'. And at 5'6" and 105 lbs, I doubt there's much you can't pull off!

i don't like stacey's jeans imo they're tapered, not skinny. this seems to be a very popular topic lately. i don't like tapered jeans. i do like straight jeans, i think the line it creates with heels is very fresh.
I have jeans from Blue Cult that look exactly like that, but I have only worn them tucked into boots. I actually like skinny jeans for a change and if they're done right. I think a lot of people can wear them if they pair them with the right top and shoes.
I personally would call these 'skinny jeans' These are 'tapered': m - I think I would classify your new jeans more as 'straight leg' or 'narrow bootcut' rather than 'skinny'. And at 5'6" and 105 lbs, I doubt there's much you can't pull off!-- Edited by LMonet at 13:09, 2005-11-16
Lmonet- love those top two pairs!
I love dark skinny jeans. i think they rock. not sure if i like them on stacey, and yea, i don't like the baggy tapered stonewashed look
is the problem with stacy's jeans in that photo that they are just too short for the style that they are? because the skinny-jean photo that jj posted afterwards looks much better with the bottom of the pants going down over the shoe.
this is a very confusing topic. i wanted some skinny jeans, but now i am afraid i am going pick the wrong ones and people will be pointing and laughing at me.
I love Stacy and her outfits are usually perfection, but I think her jeans are too short. I think skinny jeans, to look modern, should cover the tops of your shoes like this pair LMonet posted:
yeah this is exactly right. they look good on the longer side, and also I think the reason they look so good tucked into boots is that the boots sort of do what a flare would normally do--add some dimenson and weight to the lower leg so you avoid the ice cream cone look.
