Help packing for my Miami trip!
Permalink Closed

Pretty much anything goes in Miami. I have visited the city numerous times over the past 7 years, and I lived there for 2.5 months in 2011.

In February, it is often warm (in the 70's), but it can get low into the 50s at night and in the mornings. It's very humid, and that can skew the feel of the temperature at times. Also, you need to consider how close to the ocean you'll be. If you're near it, it will probably be windier. If you're in Coral Gables or downtown Miami, then it might be warmer. Just depends.

Style-wise - unless people are going out on a Sat night on South Beach, people tend to dress quite casually. Guys wear shorts to restaurants (providing there is no dress code), for example.

I wore a lot of skirts and dresses in Miami. It was a comfortable way to dress cool when necessary but also look chic at the same time. Bring a light jacket or sweater(s); don't count on wearing shorts and tanks the whole time. Weather is changeable but should fall on the warmer side more often than not. Also, consider how cold it will be indoors. Many places tend to be over-air-conditioned.

Miami is a great place to wear color (especially if you don't typically wear a lot of it). Also, my loving motto for the city is "The heels are always a little higher in Miami." So, if you got heels and you can walk in them, bring them! As a matter of fact, when it comes to clothes, I feel comfortable in just about anything there--even more comfortable than I do at home in Charlotte.

Where in the Miami area will you be? I think it makes a difference. How fun!

We were supposed to go back for at least a month this year, but shiz got in the way here and in Ohio. :-/

Hi ladies!

So my husband is currently deployed and he just got word yesterday that they will be free for a couple of days in February and that they are able to bring their SO's to Miami while they are off! Yay!!!! I haven't seen him in a month and he'll be going overseas soon so this will probably be the last time I see him for a while.

I have never been to Miami so I definitely need some ideas of what to take and whatnot. I should be there for 6 days from the 14th to the 20th. Any help would help me out tons!

When I think of Miami, I think bright and breezy. I was there once at the end of February/early March and it was warm enough for the beach during the day. At night I definitely needed a sweater or light jacket. The women were beachy dressy (like pollyjean said, lots of dresses, skirts and wedges.)

Since you won't be seeing your new DH for a while, I'm going to suggest that before you go, pick out a special outfit. Have somebody take a photo of the two of you together so you both have a special photo to look at while he's deployed. If you already have the whole outfit put together before you go, it'll be easier to get a really great photo.

Have fun!

Thanks ladies! That's similar to what I was thinking of. Today it was official that I am going on the 15th for six days.

Pollyjean I don't really know which area I'll be in but I know his hotel is on NW 36th Street. I don't know how much that helps but that's all I know lol! He will be picking me up at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale which he said is about 40 minutes away from where he's staying.

I really want to go see the beaches and just be a tourist ;) Any specific recommendations?

If you want busy beach with a lot of people watching and shopping/restaurants nearby, go to South Beach (you should go anyway just for the experience). If you want quiet, beautiful, natural beach experience, drive out to Biscayne Bay (again, you should go anyway just for the experience)!  Have fun!
