i know this technically doesn't belong here, but i need the traffic.
i did a BIN for something on ebay. i had asked the seller a question and she never responded. i bought it anyway, because her feedback is good. it's been about 24 hours, and i got a confirmation e-mail from ebay, but nothing from the seller (like an invoice). is it okay to go ahead and pay it? i am scared that i am sending my $230 into space and will never receive anything for it. what would you do?
**update--so i got an automated reply from the seller that she had received my payment. it should be all good.
i've had so many sellers not respond to my questions... i have sent the money anyways. but it's never been more than 50.00. if she has good feedback, i'd say your safe. does she have like 10 pos. feedback or 150?

she has millions of positive feedback, and like 5 negatives (apparently she sells film cameras and some people say that they are expired when they get them...?).
i sent the e-mail through ebay that asks for a "total" and alerted her to my different shipping address, so hopefully she'll respond soon. she does seem to have a pretty large ebay business, so maybe she's just busy.
I always just pay immediately after I've won/BIN'ed. I assume they will send it to me - if I don't have anything in hand after a week, then I start hounding them.

I would wait until the last minute just to be safe. Does the seller say that you have to pay after X number of days? These days I almost always get one of those form ebay invoices from sellers and tend to wait until I get that to pay.
Also, if she is a power seller & you are paying via paypal, your purchase is protected through their program. I always pay right away as well, i never wait for an invoice. But it hasn't been over $100 either...

oh, thanks laken! i didn't know about the power seller thing--it says she is one. should i just go ahead and pay it then? ebay will protect me if she reneges?

Maybe I'm confused but I thought that when an auction ended ebay would send an email out to both the seller and the winner. In the email to the seller they ask if you would like to send an invoice - it comes through ebay but it isn't automatic because the seller has to fill in stuff like the shipping costs so that the buyer gets the true total. At least that's how I remembered it working from when I sold things. Sometimes the winner did pay before I got a chance to send out the invoice (like if I wasn't at home when it ended) but I think sometimes people like to wait for the invoice just in case there wasn't a definite shipping cost for everyone (like foreign buyers, etc.).
I hope this makes sense, but with most of the auctions I've won recently I've gotten first the "auction ended" email from ebay and then an ebay generated invoice from the seller. Often the two come within minutes of each other but sometimes there's a lag if the seller isn't around.
It sounds like you have nothing to worry about though, especially if ebay will protect you.
ok, the invoice was definitely from ebay, but it did give the seller's address in case you were paying by money order. i'm going to pay by paypal. and it's a flat rate shipping, so it's easy math to figure out how much i owe her. i just want to make sure that she knows to send to my work address, not the one that my paypal account is registered to because that's my home and it's so iffy whether or not i will actually receive it there.
I would send an e-mail saying URGENT PLEASE RESPOND REGARDING ITEM #XXXXXXXXXXX, and explain how you want to confirm that she received your instructions on where to send it, plus reiterate that you paid a lot of money and want reassurance (this is what I do when they're not communicative) just be honest, but personable at the same time - there's nothing to be gained by being a demanding bitch (not that you are, but... you know what I mean )
